Hmm.... how do I respond to this without making you sound like a self-righteous prick. No, not all, not even many, american hate islam. It's just another religion. However, I do believe that society in a majority of Islamic states is in what we might refer to as "The Dark Ages at best". I don't hate islam. Remember, Christianity had an 800 year start on settling down. BTW, the war in Iraq was started over oil, not religion. So, if that has anything to do with your question.....

Islam is a phony religion started by a murderer and a thief called Mohammad. Idiots who follow him are called Mohammedans. They try to distance themselves from their religion of hate by calling it Islam and themselves Muslims. Read the history of Islam-it is not good. Read some books by former Muslims that expose Islam for what it really is. Read articles by Dr.s Emir and Ergen Canner at Liberty University, or read books by Dr. Annis Shorrosh. You can find any of these people on the Internet. Islam/Mohammedanism is a religion of murder and hate. They have an agenda, and that is to kill every Jew and Christian and then take control of the whole planet and subject everyone to the kind of law we found in Afghanistan. Thats what I know-what do you think.

I think all religions are misguided attempts to deal with the randomness of reality. Some religions are "better" because they do less harm than others; some are "bad" because they are by nature destructive.
I don't expect to see religion lose its grip on people in my lifetime, and at this point, the way things are going, I think that religous wars will do much to destroy civilization before humanity matures enough to let go of religious beliefs in favor of a rational approach to life.
As to Islam, its attitude towards women is pretty primitive. If you really believe you have to cover your women and girls to prevent them from tempting you into bad behavior, then the problem is with the men, who must be very weak indeed.

It's basically a peaceful religion, but the fanatics are doing major damage. Eventually they'll be brought under control (just like the Christian Crusaders and the Catholic Church's Inquisition), but in the meantime we all suffer the consequences.

I understand that the problems between the sects stem from controversy about who is Mohammad's authentic descendant. Is the common enemy (U.S. and Israel) the only thing that unites them?

More countries seem to be adopting sharia -- when will that end?

I've seen adherents of Islam that I greatly admire - Anwar Sadat and King Abdullah of Jordan, for example. But I don't think the good Muslims are doing enough to overcome the negative impressions created by al-Qaeda, Hamas, Ansar al-Islam and other groups which practice terrorism in the name of Islam.

Honestly, I think Islam needs some updating. And Muslims need to listen to the words of change comming from their own communities, especially women and intellectuals who are warning Islam is in decadence.

Islam, as well as ALL other politically based power grabbing religions are a curse upon mankind.

Consider the torture, rape, murder and WARS all because of religion. what kind of god do these religions have? it is the god of power over men. not very different from the god of money!!

When I talk about those kind of religions, I especially mean the xians, jews, and of course islam. These are not religions, they are a curse. I'm sure there are a few other religions that fall into this category that I haven't mentioned.

hmmm.. ok.. I don't think about islam, I don't care about islam, I don't care who is islam. We all have free choice and I have made mine.

I do not work around islamic people that I know of... so I don't need to know at this moment if I need to pay special attention to anything...

I don't drink, smoke, swear, etc.. so I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't offend an islamic person.. if I did.. I think they'd tell me.

I think the great sin of Islam is the lack of condemnation towards those within the Muslim community that promote the shedding of innocent blood.
