What comes first nationalism or being christian?

So when does a christian beating his swords into plowshares and spears in to pruning shears begin and not learn war any more? (Isaiah 2:4) What example are christians showing right now that they will obey that command from God? I know Jehovah Witnesses do.

Jehovah's Witnesses practice true biblical Christianity. Others should learn from them.

Catholic use the "just war" doctrine to determine if a war is morally correct.

The “just war” doctrine requires rigorous consideration to determine if defense by military force is legitimate.

Offensive war is never justified.

All the following considerations must be true to justify war:
1. The damage inflicted by the aggressor on the nation or community of nations must be lasting, grave, and certain;
2. All other means of putting an end to it must have been shown to be impractical or ineffective;
3. There must be serious prospects of success;
4. The use of arms must not produce evils and disorders graver than the evil to be eliminated.

The allies defensively fighting the atheistic Nazi-started World War II definitely meets the requirements of a just war.

German Catholics and other Christians were drafted in to the German armed forces and had to fight or be executed. Pope Benedict XVI was one of these unfortunate people.

Catholics and other Christians on both sides feel horrible about the war but both sides had to fight.

War is hell.

Most Catholics believe the U.S. war against Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks was justified.

Most Catholics believe the U.S. was against Iraq is not justified.

With love in Christ.

During the Second World War we fought the Germans who wore belt buckles with the large words Gott Mit Uns on them. About 99 % of Americans were christian.
The Italians were more than 99 % christian. So there you have it Christians killing Christians.
No one thought of it that way it was Americans against Germans and Italians.
Not everybody puts religion above everything else. If you're a Christian, do you have to think that all Christians are great ? Same for the other religions.
Ben Laden makes a big show of his Islamic beliefs. Do all Muslims have to think that he so great. Or Saddam gassing the Kurds. Must they say that he's a brother ?

It is where people put their duty to government over what is right and wrong. I think we can all say that the Germans were wrong during WWII. The christians on the German side were either forced to fight on pain of death, or were convinced by the government that they were right (which would have been not of the Bible).

It is unfortunate, but if they are supporting incorrect morals, then we fight. The same thing occurs today between some "christians" who support abortion and those christians that don't, etc. etc..

"Life" takes precedence over all other laws. One may act in self defence or to save another life -- or in the case of war, to save a people.

As an example, Jews have "turned the other cheek" for 2000 years (a Christian idea that the Jews practice), but no more will they take it lying down! This time they won't go quietly.

Not having served in the military I cannot answer that question - but a movie that deals clearly with the issue is a classic movie called Sgt. York.

Generally people that enlist don't seem to reconcile killing as a bad thing. They deem it "neccesary" for peace. This of course it not ALL enlistees, and certainly not all draftees. Good luck and God Bless.

This is one of the toughest question one would have to answer if they are honest to their faith as well as job! I guess, it is different from situation to situation and allowed if your cause justifying it.
