Why in the hell would you join the army? No disrespect in your decision to do what you wanna do but I would like to know your personal reason in deciding to join.

I do apologise because I am neither black nor in the Army but my husband is an Army Officer and we have a close friend, also an Army Officer who is black. I believe that he joined for the same reasons every Officer did. Because he wanted to lead, because he wanted to use his intellect and education to make the World a safer place for ALL innocent people, because he was and is proud to serve our beautiful country where he was born, because he wanted to travel.... the reasons are endless but I can't imagine why a black citizen of our country would feel any differently to any other ethnic group. Sadly I have to add that our latest loss in Iraq was a young man who was a Muslim. His brother said today that he wanted to promote peace and to serve a country which had welcomed him and his family when he was 12. Colour, race & creed have no bearing on a decision to serve alongside your countrymen.

The Intellegent Black Man should be able to figure this out on his own. But im guessing your asking why should the black people or any minority for that matter give in to such a calling or career. I am a Chicano. My fiancee is a black women. What you should be asking is
Why would you steal?
Why would you sell drugs?
Why would you go on welfare?
Why would you join a gang?
Why would you prostitute yourself?
Why would you abort that child?
Why would you walk out on your family forever?
THIS GOES FOR ALL RACES OUT THERE.
You should change your nickname. ..

I think it's just what you feel you need to do....I don't think it's a color thing. I think it's a calling in a sense. My father was in the Army and in Vietnam, but myself, I would never join the military. I've heard the horror stories. But if we didn't have men and women who protected our country...where would we be. Our freedom is because of the brave men and women you risk their lives for us. Without them we would not be FREE.

The brothers I knew in the Corps wouldn't give your question a thought or YOU the time of day after asking such a silly question. The few that would reply would say, because they're proud to be American, happy to be free and healthy enough to do it. Those who can..., should and those who won't are dead wood.

Why, when as a society we are trying to eliminate racism and to get everyone treated and thought of equally, do you ask a question which again seperates one race from another in a discriminatory way?

Black, White, Asian, Native or whatever, why does it matter?
