Christians can offer no evidence for their most important claim, that faith in Jesus Christ procures eternal life. Christians can't point to a single proven case of this prediction coming true. They cannot show a single believer in Jesus actually enjoying eternal life, nor can they demonstrate the probability of such a fortunate outcome arising from any choice we make today. Even if they could prove God exists and created the universe, it still would not follow that belief in Jesus saves us. Even if they could prove Jesus performed miracles, claimed to speak for God, and rose from the dead, it still would not follow that belief in Jesus saves us.

So knowing this as a Christian...how is it that just FAITH in a fairytale keeps you going? Why not have a belief in the great Money God...wouldnt that serve your purposes better?

Hmm, interesting question. To add to your lament, if you did have 100% faith in a particular religion, Catholicism for example, then you're also saying that ALL of the other religions are false because their doctorine is different from yours. That includes Jews, Mormons, Muslims, Budists, and any of the hundreds of other religions. Would God send them to hell if they followed a false god? Would God damn millions of people because they didn't have the opportunity to learn about Catholicism?

What would happen if one of the other religions was correct and your chosen religion was not? You would have spent your life dedicated to a belief and principle that's untrue. As much as you believe in your god, someone else in another religion will tell you that theirs is the only true god. If you don't question your beliefs (with an open mind and heart) how can you ever know the truth?

Ya know what? Even if all this does prove to be a fairytale, and in the end there is no "everlasting" life , I have been blessed by my faith in Christ already. The peace that believing in Jesus has brought me is priceless. The joy I feel, the comfort I experience, the kindness shown to me and the kindness I share are all because I believe. I don't walk around angry with the world and angry with Christians trying to disprove their beliefs. It amazes me how much time and energy non-believers put into doing just that when they could be enjoying life and never tasting the bitterness of disbelief.
Here's a little "human" example. If I believe that one day I am going to win the lottery, and that belief gives me the strength to go on and endure through the tough times, is it not important for me to hang on to the belief even if the odds are stacked against me actually winning? If I die without winning the lottery, that is the end of it. If I die believing in everlasting life and have lived my faith throughout life, I still have a chance! There is nothing else known that could carry on after death. Try believing, you will be surprised with the results and the calm and peace you will experience instead of the bitterness and the effort it takes to try and "prove" someone is wrong.

But let me ask you this: let's say that all of the above can be proven true - God exists and created the universe, Jesus performed miracles and speaks for God, and Jesus rose from the dead - if every single thing to this point has been proven to be true, then why would you have any reason to doubt eternal life? If God has proven trustworthy in every facet, why would He suddenly not be in this one?

Can we prove eternal life? No, but the probability raises dramatically if everything has been proven. So what I hear you telling me is that every single thing has to be proven true in order for you to believe, but at some point you have to, as Kierkegaard said, make that great leap into the abyss, trusting that God will catch you. It's scary, but well worth the leap.

No one will ever show you the "evidence" you are looking for!

"While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal." (*2 Corinthians 4:18)

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." (**Hebrews 11:1)

"By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith"(***Hebrews 11:7)

As for why we do not belief in the"great Money God" like more non-Christians:

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."(****2 Corinthians 5:17)

and

"For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."(*****1 Timothy 6:10)

One of my favorite movies, "Contact", with Jodie Foster, makes an interesting analogy with religion, "proof" and science. Jodie Foster's character in the movie has an experience that was produced by instructions from another world and supported by the scientific community, she comes back from this experience to try and communicate that what she experienced was an encounter with "someone" out there in space. There are people who believe her and people who don't. The one thing she knows is that her experience was very real and she stands by it. That's all I have to share with you as well. My experience and encounter with God through Jesus is very real to me. I cannot prove it to you. But, I will tell you, as a friend and fellow human being that I am not the only one to encounter Christ. Now, you could say "well many people have had similar encounters with the "gods" of their religion. Does that make the whole 'religious experience' thing just a psychological delusion?" Good question. I think that unfortunately that does play into a lot of the fanatacism that you see out there (not just among christians but other religions and atheists too). Again, all I can do is come back to my own experience and tell you that I had a very real and wonderful encounter with Christ and so have many, many others that I know. Peace.

I believe that even your most far out fairytales, just like the Tall Tales, have some form of basic line of truth. But, have you ever tried to truely understand the definition of the word "faith"? It is the process of believing and allowing ones self to be inspired to believe in something that you can not see or touch. To allow yourself to extend your humanity beyond that of the physical realm. I believe that Jesus was a real person. And I understand your questioning. But, just like you ask about if Jesus really saved us because there is no proof; can you prove that he didn't? That is what faith is all about. How about this....when you die why don't you send us an email and let us know what you find out in the end.

Actually, if you would have done some research you would find he was a real Christian and a man. Back in the days, scientists have found historical facts about a Jesus in Dead Sea Scrolls and in census's. Maybe you want to read a book called "More Than A Carpenter" by Josh McDowell who is an author that came to prove the world that Jesus was not a real person and he found out doing intense and in depth research that Jesus was a real man. He gave his life to Christ from one simple book. Might want to try it. It won't hurt. If you need help go to a local priest, pastor, church and/or Christian counselor.

I like your thinking. Even if God was proven to exist and Jesus did miracles, Christianity would still have a long way to go to prove itself. It's a good thing I pray to the great Monkey God!

I'm technically not of Christian faith and you make a good point,I asked at one time why Jesus was real and Isis (for example) was a myth...I got alot of answers but none could give me proof that he wasn't a myth..other than the bible said so...well the bible was written by man, and we all know that men & women alike wouldn't write something like that and not write the whole truth....yeah right...I'm not saying there isn't a God but you r right we really have no concrete proof...and alot of Christian rituals so to speak came from the Pagan-Wicca religion...Everyone should go see the Da Vinci Code, yes it's fiction but it makes sense...

How can there be physical proof of eternal life in a spiritual realm? The body dies, the soul lives forever. You don't have to accept Jesus to spend eternity somewhere. Either way your soul will go on...either in fiery torment or in Heavenly Glory. Climb down off your high horse. It makes no difference what you think. The FACT of the matter is you will spend eternity somewhere. The choice is yours.

There is only one way to Heaven...And that is through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
