I'm a night person but my job requires me to get up really early in the morning (around 445-5AM). Any suggestions on effective ways to get up?

The obvious answer is to go to bed early...being in the military I know all about the early mornings...sadly they are often followed by late nights. The best way to make a big change to ones sleeping cycle, for me anyways is to sacrifice a day...stay up all day and night one day...then goto bed the following day at a decent time that allows you plenty of sleep and the ability to get ready in the morning. Like I get up at 4:30, so I try to go to bed around 9. So if normally you can't go to sleep at this time...you will once you've been up all night and all day...then now its just maintaining your new sleep cycle...this just seems to work well for me...

Re-arrange your schedule to compensate for your job that requires getting up so early in the mornings. Go to bed earlier in the evenings. If you are a night person, then as soon as it's possible find yourself a job that is more suitable to you.

Before you go to bed, like about 30 minutes before, eat a small snack. I suggest 1-2 oz of turkey (triptophan - spelling approximate), a cracker or a cookie, or if you are concerned about your weight - a low glycemic carbohydrate and some nuts - almonds or peanuts are best. This is a recipe for some slow burning energy that will help level your blood sugar out for the night, and have some left over to help you get up in the morning.

It will help you get to sleep faster, and help you maintain a restful sleep.

If this works, you may want to check out www.hufa.org for more info on low blood sugar, its causes and things you can do about it.

I get up that time to get ready for work to. You get use to it.
I'm that use to it, I usually watch the clock all night.

Set an alarm, but don't have it next to your bed, have it across the room, so you have to get up to turn it off.

Get the phone company to give you a wake up call, it might cost you a fee.
