That's nothing... try finding the parts where god orders thousands of people to be killed. Or a whole type of people wiped out.

Do not believe in everything you read. We are not sure of the Authenticity of the bible in the first place. Life can be barbarick depending on how we choose to think. We live to die when you really think about it. We are born, we age then we die for what (nobody knows) just make a difference in a good way while you are living and stop worrying or questioning the bible (you may never know if it is real or not anyway). Use your energy for better things and have a nice day.

Those were the Moses laws that were nailed to the cross; Read Deut 31 and Col 2 to see what was nailed to the cross. However, the ten commandments still remain Exodus 20. If you understood the circumstance of the Moses law being developed you will see that it was designed to curb the people from sinning after coming out of Egypt which corrupted them for so many years before. Jesus came to abolish those laws because they were against us as you will read in the above texts. Context and understanding what it all stems from will open your understanding more of the scriptures. I invite you to study in deligently for yourself and see. See first link below to see why the first covenant which included what you mentioned above failed and Jesus made a new one with us.

As barbarous as YOU want it to be. It comes down to interpretation. in the end the bible is just a book (goes for other religous texts as well (Qouran and what not). the level of barbarism is dependent on the person(s) who give it their own interpretation.
a peaceful minded person would be able to show the more peaceful side of such texts.

Yup they did that stuff. There is a lot of history in it... and valuable lessons we can learn from it. Good thing I live by the grace of the Lord who has forgiven me... I live by the code of grace and am no longer under the law.

It's an awful book that should be kept away from children with all the sex and "god" directed violence in it.
