I don't think it begins nor ends. Kind of like the ocean current, it is constantly circulating according to external influences. Sometimes a hurricane/typhoon could change the norm. And certain types of clouds can influence wind. Like some special wind in Austrailia, which originates from the south pole, which hanggliders use. Exotic clouds is the term.

It begins with 'w' and ends with 'd'. If you want the scientfic explanation, it begins when air is heated by the sun and moves in the direction where it is able to expand and thus cool off.
