It's a fair question, so let me try to provide a fair answer...
Eating fish on Friday is a matter of Catholic Church tradition, not something found in the Bible.
As to authorship, God inspired men to write 66 books, saying what He wanted said in their own language and filtered through their own personalities. Oddly enough, all those different authors -- while there may be very minor scribal errors between them, managed to totally agree on the foundational doctrines found in the Bible; you'll have a difficult time finding agreement like that among humans in any other venue!
Furthermore, the Bible is filled with prophesy. Now this isn't such a big deal when the prophesies are written, cause who knew if they were true or not, right? However, centuries later when we lay books of the Bible down side by side with known history that came after the fact, the Bible becomes the only book in all the world that can prove itself credible through prophesies that have now come to pass.
For instance, read the Book of Daniel and look for the story of Alexander the Great and his generals dividing his kingdom. It is there, but that book preceded Alexander by quite a long time.
Look also at what both Daniel and Jesus said about the fall of the temple -- Daniel predicted it when there was not even a temple to fall; Jesus told His Apostles that it would happen in their lifetime even when there was no secular or political reason to suspect it. Both sets of prophesies were again spot on accurate.
You can read the works of the first century historian Josephus -- who was very much NOT a Christian and see testimony of his time period -- the time period of Jesus life and just after that flies in the face of popular dissenters and makes very clear that the gospels are very reliable books of history and not just fables. Josephus himself calls this historical figure Jesus the Messiah and openly attributes vast miracles to Him. Should we trust him for our modern day information about the ancient Caesars, but not about Jesus? That seems a bit silly.
Many people have attacked the Bible and said many silly, inflammatory things about it and for very good reason. If the Bible is true -- as it very much seems to be, it places a requirement on human beings to be different than what we would like to be.
That too though is a very strange thing if we are attributing the Scriptures simply to men. Why would men invent a religion that men cannot possibly fulfill? Why would men write rules for human living that no human can follow? Why would men invent a God that cannot be seen?
We have over 700 examples of different religions men have invented and in all of them we see a consistent human tendency to invent gods and religions similar to ourselves and technically within our reach. The God of the Bible does not follow that pattern though, but is very much different than us, above us and out of our reach. It is not logical that men would invent a God like that.
For those that call Christianity a "crutch" it is not much of a "crutch" being that Christianity demands the impossible and forces a man to rely entirely on God's forgiveness rather than earning His favor.
So, whether you "trust" or believe the Bible or not, recognize at least that it is a set of books that fully violate what we know to be the natural tendencies of human beings; it is a thing that can only reasonably be called "supernatural," something clearly NOT invented by men. It has prophesies that we know are factually fulfilled, makes demands that no human would ever place upon himself, describes a God that even our most intelligent, modern day scholars cannot fully understand. Whether you believe in the Bible or not, it is a profound enigma and cannot be categorized with any other book on earth. In short, if the "word of God" exists, it can only be found in that Bible.
As to disagreements among men, yes, there are many where the Bible is concerned. We have Orthodoxy, the Roman Catholic Church and more than 30,000 different Protestant religions and this fact can certainly leave your head spinning if you're looking for truth. On the other hand, each of these agree on at least one very important point: Jesus being God incarnate and the only name in all the universe by which men's sins may be forgiven.
Humans screw everything up, so don't rush to call God and His Book false based upon the imperfect presentation given by men.
Jesus said that if you believe in Him, call on His name to be saved and simply TRY to allow Him to change you, that you would be saved. Take the Guy at face value; more than 500 people saw Him walking around after He was dead and watched Him float up into the sky. Just believe and call on Him -- worry about religion later. It is God who saves through Jesus, not through a manmade organization.

The Bible doesn't say eat fish on Fridays, but there are many people who put this kind of stuff on those looking for truth. Welcome to religion. The Bible was written by many different people: Moses and Paul the Apostle wrote much of it. Also King David and King Solomon (You know, the "wisest man who ever lived" guy). It is a historical book written over several thousand years and amazingly verifyable via archeology. Kings, ancient prophets, doctors and even some fishermen wrote some parts. The amazing thing is that it all tells one story: how God reached out to mankind in a profound gifting of love to do for us what we couldn't do for ourselves: make us better than we are. It is not about do's and don'ts. It is about restoring a relationship with God, and cleaning up the mess that life can be. The reason there is so many "gods" out there is because people like to create their own version of the truth that is easier to swallow than "one God only, and one way only". It is simple to become a believer and yet hard because it means giving up control of your life to God, letting Him call the shots. The Bible says all you have to do is recognize your own imperfections and believe that Jesus was who he said he was and came to rescue us all from the ruin of our own poor choices, then ask God to be in charge of the rest of your life. Telling God you are sorry for the mistakes you have made is important too. This is one of the hard parts. Nobody likes saying they were wrong. It's a lot easier to say you've eaten fish every Friday of your life. Read the Bible for your self, especially the last half called the "New Testament". Then you will know for yourself what is important and what isn't. God bless.

You seriously want to know the answers to these questions?
Start with the book "More than a Carpenter" by former atheist Josh McDowell. It is easy to read and is about 90 pages. If you want a heavy course... he also wrote the book "New Evidence that Demands a Verdict" and has other books out there as well.
Do as I did... go to any library and check them out. And ah by the way... I was Catholic too and I had fish on Friday as well. Totally unbiblical crap. I left the Catholic church because they do not teach the truth. Study the Bible that way you will know what it says and be able to decide who is teaching correctly and who is not.
Get serious... study and find out the answers. They are out there. Josh is a hell of a good author... his books are all over the world... so go to a library and check them out.
As for what version to get... get one that is not published by the Catholic church for starters... if they can't teach the truth then they are no different than the Mormons or the Jehovah's Witnesses. Just go to a Christian bookstore and find one that you like to read and understand. I prefer you get the amplified version as it brings out each verse in a easy to understand language. For serious study... the NIV Study Bible by Zondervan is good, NASB is also good, and the New King James is good. I don't like the old King James because we don't speak Victorian anymore. I need something up to date in modern English.

Dear "Who Wrote the Bible": You wrote a very good questions. I am sure that you will receive many answers. Some of them will be good, and some will be bad. How will you know which is which?
The first answer is easily understood: Read the Bible for yourself. Before you start, you might ask someone that you trust, and who knows the Bible to help guide you on where you might start reading. If there is no such person, then ask God to guide you, and trust that He will do so. You see, the God of the Universe is a very personal God. He wants you to know who He is and to understand His purpose for you life. He will lead you to the right passages.
The second anwer is also simple. It is my personal belief that God inspired common men (like you and me) to write the Bible. The words they used belonged to them, but the ideas in this great book are distinctly God's, and hence they are true and accurate. There are two places that I would direct you to read, to show the power of God's ability to know and predict the future. The first is Psalm 22. This beautiful Psalm was written by King David many hundreds of years before Chirst was even born, and yet it accurately describes how Jesus was killed on the Cross and the conditions that He experienced. Another prediction is found in Isaiah Chapter 53. This predicts very accurately, the nature of Jesus, and how he was to be crucified for everyone's sins.... Even before crucifixion was a method of death imposed by the Roman empire. This prediction was also made many hundreds of years before Christ was born. And then, of course, you may want to read the actual accounts of Christ's death found in each of the 4 Gospels, Matthew (chapters 26 through 27), Mark (chapters 14-15), Luke (chapters 22-23) and John (chapters 17-20).
The Bible predicts many other things... These predictions are called prophesy. They are a very powerful way of knowing that God inspired the writers of the Bible in a very specific way. There is no other book on earth that was ever writen that contains such specific prophesy of the future. Why? Because God wants you to believe that everything said about Him and His Son, Jesus is absolutely true. In the end, He wants you to know Him and believe in Him.
Thank you for asking such a great question. I hope this answer helps.

Let me explain
The bible was written and was added by several people during the course of history. But because science was not really focused at the time, people often thought there was forces that controlled the weather and other stuff. It was a lack of education. But people who believed in this stuff often hallucinated and thats why they say they could see god;through visions. Then as time went by, there are many different gods or deities, and people thought there were gods that were for one thing and gods for another. Like in greek mythology. If crops were to die, it was done by the fertility god. This was called animism where everything had a spirit.
People believed in it because they need hope and faith instead of science. But we need them both in the world. But the reason why people believe in it is like a doctor saying to a patient that you have 24 hours to live and I cant do anything to fix your condition. Give him hope man. That is why everybody believes in the bible.

The Bible is the divine, inspired word of God. It was written down (transcribed)my many who God communicated with or who witnessed the historical events, but the words and happenings come from God.

Many people wrote the bible. The bible tells about the accounts of each person, what they experience, saw, learned. It was written over time, maybe you should read it. I like the New Testament better.

If adult males wrote how will you belive that is easily actually authentic? See my factor? <> you're making an assumption - and treating it as if it turned right into a actuality. you may want to not do this, lest you be putting a spin on issues.
