When a boy after having spent the night with a girl says I'll see you later, what does this mean? I am german and so i am not familiar with the english manners. Is it just a simple phrase like bye, that's it or is there more about it? Does he really want to see her later???? I don't think so. In Germany it's different, you wouldn't say something like that. So this whole thing is confusing me! I know that the Americans use phrases like that too and that they don't mean anything. Everything is very casual, is it the same in GB? You know such casual phrases create a lot of misunderstandings. I know of course that you people don't realize that and that you don't do it on purpose. Sorry for asking such a stupid question!

He, what if he doesn't know how to contact me, we didn't exchange numbers nor did we made any arrangements. The whole thing went completely wrong 'cause he was preparing to travel back to London. But I just didn't dare to ask for his number when he said " I'll see you later". I thought it means bye.

It is not because you are German that you get confused by this!! I've had the same thing and I'm from England! See you later can mean that later on you will see them, or it can mean that the person who says it would like to see you again, or it can just mean a softer way of saying goodbye as it is not final.

that's not a stupid question at all, it's just one of those things that takes a long time in a country to get used to. Normally 'see you later' is a casual thing, and doesn't mean they intend to see you later unless you have actually arranged something. sometimes in shops i say "see you later" to the shop assistant after I have paid, and i don't know them, and will certainly not be seeing them later! hope this helps

Simple phrase like bye!

It's just a phrase used in many situations. Take it whichever way you want to but don't hold your breath about seeing him again. Occasionally it might mean that he will see you later, or, he could mean 'Cheers for the shag, I might see you around'.

It means that he is leaving for a little while but he would like to be able to talk to you again, at a later time.

did he take your number ? it can mean what it says but more often than not see you later is just a way of saying bye with no committment - depends how long you know him etc .

it can mean just "bye" or that she will see you again at some point. depending how she likes things to mean when she says them. try not to dwell on it and see if she'll see you again! and no its not a stupid question! good luck! x

Unfortunately, it could mean 'goodbye' or 'I'll see you again later'. It depends on the context.
I assume you haven't arranged to meet again later, so probably, it means goodbye.
Not too helpful, I suppose... sorry.

well basically depends on which tone he said that, if he said it being smiley and like looking straight to the eyes you can be sure you'll see him later, but if he just was leaving and said "i'll see you later" i don't know... i don't think that's normal informality, so just wait a lil a see how it goes!
