My wife asked this question. Do the hispanic immigrants celebrate the 4th of July as we do? We celebrate Cinco de Mayo with them, so do they celbrate with us?

Thanks for the Cinco de Mayo lesson. I was not aware of that. I often wondered if America glorified the date for profit in the alcohol and food industries. It just seems like a manufactured holiday.

They party like the Americans. They love to have parties and this is one more reason to do it. As far as Cinco de mayo, they don't celebrate this as a holiday in their own land and they don't celebrate it here. Americans celebrate this holiday because its another reason to party. Cinco de Mayo is not independence day for them, speaking of Mexico that is, September 16th is.

Everybody celebrates The 4th of July in the US, and in Baja California its a big weekend for tourism, fireworks are readily available, terrific beach weather. As a resident gringo I have been asked by locals what's it all about...like the 16th of September (Mexico's Independence Day). Cinco de Mayo isn't celebrated much except in the city of Puebla where a minor skirmish with French occured. Cinco de Mayo has been popularized in the US by manufactuers and distributors of Tequila.

Depends. Most at least appreciate the day off and most do celebrate the independence of their new country. And Cinco de Mayo is not the Mexican Independence day and doesn't even represent other Latino countries holidays and Americans celebrate it as another excuse to get drunk.

Some do. Mexicans like a party just as much as we do. They may not celebrate for the same reasons, but who has problems with a grill and fireworks?

I have lived in sothern california for 35 yrs in largely hispanic 'hoods and am white.Having seen their celabrations up close and personal , they love it!Lots of fireworks and partys always! Many get the killer fire works out of state and smuggle them in so they can celabrate in a big way.The bad part is quite a few like to fire guns in the air too.But do they join in the party oh yea in a big way!

The ones that truly want to assimilte into American society drink beer, shoot off fireworks, go to parades and fly the American flag. Read the polls and you'll find that Latinos who have immigrated legally and desire to assimilate are overwhelmingly AGAINST amnesty for illegals.

Apparently, from what I have witnessed last night, they go to the fireworks shows and wave Mexican flags. I am not even kidding, I was so ticked.
