Marriage is LEGALLY important because it makes the parties each others' next-of-kin. Being next-of-kin carries many important legal power and priviliges that are difficult, expensive, and cumbersome to establish my any other means. That is one reason (and a very good one) that homosexuals seek the right to establish unions making them each others' next-of-kin, whether we call them marriages, civil unions, or dippitydoos.

Marriage is spiritually and emotionally important because it consists of making vows. The marriage vows aren't promises the bride and groom make to each other, they are promises to God. Telling your partner that you will love him forever is one thing; promising God to do so is another. You don't have to be very religious to believe that the promise to God carries more weight.

Why a WEDDING is so important to some people is another matter.

If two people are truely commited to one another the marriage certificate changes nothing. However, leagally the paper is important. A marriage certificate gives couples more rights, tax breaks and a break on health care. Plus if the relationship does go sour, the couple has a leagal actions to split property.

Mostly marriage is a partnership...in a way, like a small cooperation. Love (though very important) does not a marriage make. Life and being a part of the living world involves a series of continual legal obligations. When you bind yourself to another it becomes another aspect of that obligation. It tell each other that you are a team in law as well as in love.

Buddy, don't ever get married. Your life might be find for a few years, but then all heck breaks loose. The only reason to get married these days is if the spouse has more money than you do.

if you love her and you plan on being with her anyways why not get married? it helps with taxes, etc. in this society, when you are married you get treated differently. i'm not saying its right, but thats the way it is. its somewhat sacred--enen though people are abusing it everyday... many women consider marriage the ultimate sacrifice, you are committing yourself to them heart and soul. If you don't want ot marry them then they don't feel that they're good enough or that you don't want to be with them forever, it appears to them that you may be waiting for "something better to come". Marriage is giving your word that you will never love anyone else like you love them.

your right, if two people do love each other why do they have to get married to prove it? i've never thought about it. my husband and i have been married for 6 months, but have almost 3 years under our belts. for me, it makes me feel closer to him, kind of like a security blanket. for the most part, guys arent "in to" marriage, so it proves something to a girl when two people get married, it's an unexplainable bond.

Marriage isn't just a religious ceremony any more. A legal marriage gives the spouses certain rights, such as inheritance if one of them dies. If two people are not legally married they don't have the same kind of rights.

if u r not afraid of love why u r afraiding to turn this a legallized relationship? It is required for bindings to each other. Marriage is not only the bindings of one man and one woman, it is also the bindings of two cultures and two families.
