NO.

I give clothing, shoes and food and my time to them. I teach them how to live on their own, too.

Money will only buy them another sixpack or another hit off the crack pipe.

I manage a homeless shelter.
Money is the worst thing you can give them.

Not ALL homeless people are alcoholics or drug addicts, but close to 90% of them are. You can always tell, especially if you're recovering yourself (wink).

I have been known to offer them an apple from my lunch box...
ask them to join me for a coffee at a cafe...
offer to give them a blanket if they need one..
I have offered them a cigarette
and once I partied with a whole bunch of ferals on the beach at Byron Bay and although they dont consider themselves homeless, the government would probabl count them as homeless... I provided the cans of bourbon and cola, and some hot chips and gravy and they provided the stories, the music, the songs, and lots and lots of laughter....was a great night

but nope I don't give em money

I used to, but I saw the same guys over and over, and they spent money on alcohol and were quite rude to passers-by who would not give them money, so I became quite cynical about panhandling. I haven't given a panhandler money in at least ten years, and I probably never will again.

As far as donating money (such as to shelters), I don't do it at present, because I think my money can be put to better use at the moment. In the long term, I'd be glad to help the homeless with money and time, since they're certainly not all bad people by any means.

depends on whether they look like they're going to take the money to the liquor store. Theres already places that give shelter and food to those people for free. Most of them just want your money. But, there are a few good souls out there that are just down on their luck. If I can look at them and notice their sorrow, I'll give about 'em 20 bucks. I give that much to the hot girls that are always standing outside of walmart, flurting with me so I'll give money to their cheerleading squad.

Sometimes I do, But I dont like too. I prefer to go and buy some food and a hot drink if I'm able too. I can't just walk past and do nothing. I feel too guilty, it eats away at me all day otherwise.

I also donate money to St Mungos each month.

As a rule no.

If a person is hungry I well feed them.
If they need clothing, I will find some.
If they need a job, I will make suggestions.
If they need a home, I will refer to the group I give the money to.

No, it perpetuates the problem!

We as humans adapt very quickly. If that was not an option, maybe other solutions would be pursued...
