if you install ME on a different partition, you can dual boot your computer. Make a partition for ME, then install it on there. Then when booting up, tap F8, and choose ME to run instead of XP.

Ya, surely you can install as many OS as you want with our loss of any data. For this, you need to boot your computer from a bootable floppy or cd disk. Select your appropriate drive in cmos setup and set to the top priority to boot. boot pc from the bootable device, insert the windows me cd and run the setup in the partition which you want, after completion restart your system, now you will be able to select your desired OS to begin. If you need any further information or help, u can contact me on, karanjay@takemail.com. I am a software testing engineer, working in a very reputed company.

All I know is that most people usually install them on seperate hard drives, and can be done. Don't get discouraged! I think you'd need to look into your system's BIOS to see which section or drive you want to boot first, or if they have a way of asking. Usually your BIOS key will show up when you boot your PC. My button to hit if F12, but systems can vary...

1) Your system runs Win Me but you have previously installed a working Win XP which does not appear now.
2) Start installation process of Win XP until the first restart of computer.
3) Interrupt the installation and do not let continue of windows xp installation (Sinse we do not need it) and boot up with Windows ME CD-ROM or any bootable media
4) Go to your "c:\boot.ini" file and edit it, it should look like
------------------------
[boot loader]
timeout=5
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
C:\="Microsoft Windows ME"
------------------------
5) ensure that in boot.ini you have the option "c:\=..." for your windows ME
6) ensure that in boot.ini you have option "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(x)\WINDOWS" where x=partition number of your windows xp (c=0,d=1,e=2,...) if your windows xp directory name is not "windows" you should change it to reflect your situation
7) finished
