First, you cry and crib about it.

Then, go to school the next day and beg the teacher and say that you lost it and will make up for it some way or the other within 1-2 days. When i say beg, I MEAN LITERALLY EVEN ON YOUR KNEES SOMETIMES.

You can of course avoid all this by being systematic.
