Well, I think that depends on the intents of the more intelligent alien race, not to mention any other strengths or weaknesses they have.
Of course, I'd say our ultimate fate ultimately doesn't matter much anyway. Either we'll find some way to pull through, or we'll all die. Either way, problem solved.

I guess this is almost a cliché, but if they're more intelligent than us, they won't be interfering with our own evolution; we already know that's the best thing to do towards lesser species here on Earth, why shouldn't the principle apply to alien species? So, I really doubt we will make contact with a "more intelligent race". Our fate is simply to move on and acknowledge we're actually quite alone. That's right, no aliens to lend us a hand; that's a sign of laziness if you ask me, people waiting for something quite unprobable to happen.

If there where any one more intelligent than us they would have contacted us by now. If we are the once to contact them first then we would be more inteligent than them. they have to think about their fate and not the other way round.
Giving it another thought if you see the people in charge of our fate then the inteligent race mentioned in the question does not want to contact us because they are too intelligent not to contact us for a simple reason that they do not want re-think on their own fate.

Our fate will probably be the same as the Indian's when we first came to this "New World"...An alien race with the technology to get here would involve faster than light travel, which according to Einstein would be impossibe or they would have been traveling possibly hundreds or thousands of years. I doubt they would do that just to say "hi" to a species that still today tries to kill its own people with guns, drugs, carbon monoxide and all the other stupid things we still do to each other and ourselves. To know there is a species out there smarter than us would be a blow our egos could not handle. It would be a massive case of inferiority complex for the human species. It would unite the world into a new religion of predjudice and fear. Like a whole world of muslims. I'd be embarassed, wouldnt you?

Everyone on the planet will have something else to hate equally, which might distract us from killing each other for a while.
Ultimately: trade, negotiations, we'll try to cheat and war will ensue.
Grand Wizard Supreme Emperor Bush the 666th of the United States of TexEarth Corporation will blame the aliens for everything from unemployment to the weather and try to start a "regime change".

One should never rely on out side intervention, to clear up matters of your own doing. Set a nice table and invite them for dinner, respect their difference and send them peacefully on their way.

We'd probably eventually wage war on the other race just for making us feel like immature little children. (hell, we slay our own kind for just having different skin colour and thoughts.)

Well, you just made contact with me. What do you intend to do now? - just kidding.
The other race will probably think we're more intelligent than them until we open our mouths. So everyone shut up until they open their mouths and say "duh?"
