Whilst I sympathise with your position. I have been fortunate enough to work full time for 20 yrs now I would love to change career but just cannot afford to stop work and go to University. So I must ask the question are there any free courses out there for me?

Usually the job centre and careers know of these training courses that are available for the unemployed. Depending on what receipt of benefit you are on, you could be entitled to start up.

Colleges, job centre, or go to the CAB and see if they can put you in touch with people.
There are loads of places like, plumbing/car firms who take on apprentices and pay about 100 pound a week.
Also give business link a ring if that's the area you wish to pursue.

There are a lot of courses that are free or discounted for those on benefits. The Job Centre and/or your local college(s) will be able to advise you.
