special effects were good-- kinda too much of a love story--and it dragged in spots..and it got obvious they were setting up for the next one... kevin spacey was good and so was the new guy that played superman

I saw this film on IMAX - 3D and it was good. Bryan Singer has done a good job in keeping his loyalty to the original Richard Donner version of the film which introduced Christopher Reeve as the Man of Steel. I am not going to spoil the film for anyone, but there is a major plot twist which kind of ensures that there will be a sequel.

In all fairness, the film was not perfect. But Singer did a good job directing it and Brandon Routh was the perfect Superman/Clark Kent. Kevin Spacey shines as Lex Luthor. But they should do away with his girlfriend or give her a better role. Perry White is underused.

I am a big Smallville fan and really wish that they had used some of the elements of Smallville. This movie would have been much better if they had tried to balance the old Superman movies with Chris Reeve as Superman and the Smallville series with Tom Welling. It would have given something for Smallville fans to look forward to as well.

The opening sequence with all the planets and the John Williams Superman theme works very well.

But honestly, I liked the 1977 Superman the Movie better. But I think if Singer tries to make the sequel to this film which is coming out in 2009 check out Bryan Singer's page on imdb.com here:

he can do a much better job because now he has set things up and can come out with his own story without so many elements from the original movies. After all, people want to see a new movie and not just a remake of the old one. While Superman Returns is not exactly a remake, there are too many things taken from the originals.

But by and large its a great film! Surely its going to be a hard time waiting for the sequel.

Felt it was very nicely done. The flying scene are just as eye popping as the original one, which first taught us to believe... "A Man Can Fly"
