I love junk food, and I'm not fat..I'm too skinny lol. But I do love my junk food, and my pockets is fuller with green. I agree with you, we all should unite and do something.
what did you have in mind? sign me up! :)

Is junk food really all that cheaper, or is it just more convenient?

I go to Trader Joe's and buy an organic banana for 19 cents. I could also buy a toblerone for 210 cents. Both leave me feeling just as full. The banana is arguably more healthy, but not as convenient.

I think people have forgotten how to cook and how to take care of themselves. At the worst of times, I lived on $10 of food a week. It was really basic - a mixture of pearled barley, canned corn and boiled beans with some salt and pepper - but it kept my stomach full and gave me the nutrition to get through the day.

Also, and increase in the minimum wage will only help those who are paid the minimum wage. Yes, prices are going up (as they always have), but wages do rise. Maybe not as fast, which is why spending habits change. I think you won't find action taken until it deeply impacts a larger number of people on a daily basis - its not enough to have to choose between food and medicine. WHen you get it to between food and rent, that's when you'll see action.

THE REASONS HEALTHY FOOD COSTS MORE THEN JUNK FOOD IS THAT HEALTH IS THE TREND NOW EVERY ONE WISHES TO BE HEALTHY NOW TO LIVE LONGER AND LOOK GOOD AND THE HEALTH FOOD MAKERS KNOW THAT WE WILL PAY ANYTHING TO LOOK A CERTAIN WAY. WERE AS THE JUNK FOOD IS CHEAPER BECAUSE PLACES LIKE BURGER KING KNOW THAT ALTHOUGH YOU ARE EATING HEALTHY YOU STILL HAVE A CRAVING FOR FAST FOOD THE MAKE IT CHEAP AND EASY ACCESS TO YOU SO YOU WONT THINK TWICE ABOUT IT LIKE YOU DO WHEN BUYING THE MORE EXPENSIVE HEALTH FOOD. IT IS MY BELIEVE THAT PRICES GO UP AND WAGES STAY THE SAME IS BECAUSE OF THE SIMPLE FACT THAT THE BIG COMPANIES PAYING CERTAIN PEOPLE IN HIGH RANKING POST IN THE GOVERNMENT UNDER THE TABLE TO KEEP WAGES LOW WOULD EFFECT THEIR INCREASE IN PROFITS. I THINK THAT IF AMERICANS DID SOME HOW BAND TOGETHER AND STOP BUYING CURTAIN THINGS, VOTING FOR CURTAIN PEOPLE, AND NOT REMAINING SILENT ANYMORE

This is why Ontario's health care system is going to collapse. Despite what others may think, Canada does not have any more of a social safety net than the U.S. (other than health care). When people are forced into low-waged work or social assistance, they usually choose to pay for shelter first to keep them and their families from being homeless, but for food -- many cut corners and some do not eat well at all ... which is why many become fat, become ill and become a burden on our health care system.

You are right, and here is your economic explanation ( since this is were you chose to place your question )

It is all about how much can I make, how much will you pay...

healthy food ..
cost to make -- normal
how much will you pay -- high ( healthy food buyers pay the premium )

price -- high

junk food
cost to make--- very low
how much will you pay-- normal

price -- normal

Result.. companies will either pass the premiums of health food to the consumer, or will save on costs of quality

thats the explanation.. a solution would be to raise the standards for the food industry.. dont allow them to cut the quality, when the quality reaches the health food.. then they will find another way to cut costs, like actually improving their businesses. But this has to be done by the governing agency, not us

YES! i would totally join!... I never noticed about the prices rising and minimum wage staying the same. but fattening things cost more because its cheaper for companies to produce crap than crops... think about it... crops take about a year to regrow... but you can make a batch of cookies in about half an hour... it sux. and when people say "no healthy food is just as cheap as junk food" they really mean that healthy food is just as cheap as name brand crap food... but most of us can only afford the generic stuff anyways so it is still twice as expensive...

If you go to TRADER JOE...the price of the natural food there quite reasonable...same as regular supermarket...even 20% cheaper...and if you cook at home healthy actually is quite cheap...than you eat out for junk food 3 meals a day...think about it...Plus to eat healthy it means eat less...less oil, less carbs, Less fat...so obviously less expensive....

So, there is no excuses!!!
To eat junk food outside or eat healthy food at home is a choice...America is all about choices!!!
