Geepees' correct about definition-but I suggest" Defamation of character via slander could lead to libelous consequences in this obvious attempt to undermine the quality, integrity and nature of my business -should be near the mark-"I shall hear naught said against thee lass"ktf.x

both slander and libel are defamation. But a slander is verbally or something that wont last whereas libel is referring to something which can last long for example a letter, email, drawing or cartoons.. compensation for a slander would lesser compare to libel due to their nature
in such a case, firstly the company must show that their practice is a legal form however, the onus of proof will always falls on the one who claims.
its depends on the nature of the business and the seriousness of the claims including how its spread to public.

Slander is what is said about you. Libel is what is printed about you, that is not true. I will give you an example of each one.....
(SLANDER) He told his friends that she was a loose woman, and when she found out about it, she was really humiliated and hurt.
(LIBEL) The Tabloids reported that she had commited an adulterous affair, which she did not, and when she found out about it, she threatened to sue them if they did not print a retraction.

If the statements were by word of mouth only, it is slander. If the statements were in writing or print, it is libel.
