Because she's either extremely chatty or else ... She's pretty unsure of herself and feels that talking non stop is the best way to hide underlying lack of confidence/Timidity.

Some people feel they don't belong, have problems simply being themslves so tend to become total extrovert, when it is not in their nature, simply to mask their insecurity.

I've had many shifts with a carer just the same! She used to do my head in because it didn't help hearing her chatter non stop when i needed to concentrate. My solution was to ask her to leave a room where i was working and put kettle on, make us a nice cup of tea. By the time i got there, i told her that and although i enjoyed her blether at break time, i found it an absolute nightmare when working! So we had a chat and i found out that, as 'the new girl on the block' she felt a great need to feel part of the team, reason why she kept nattering. Truth was she felt intimidated at work, also at home! Her home life was hellish and she simply had a great need to express herself, non stop! We had a night out a couple of weeks later and made a point of, not including her as such because we already had, but making her realise she was indeed part of the team. She remained a chatty person if she did cut down the chatting non stop!

Buy her a box of chocolates. That may shut her up for a little while. Follow up with a comment about her weight. Or even ask, in a very subtle manner, if she may be pregnant? Although, some women can eat and talk at the same time. In fact they have sex and still talk about shopping and clothes at the same time. But chocolate is regarded as better than sex by some women and so it takes all their concentration to enjoy it fully; works especially well on blondes! If they are worried about being, over-weight they sometimes go quiet for a whole minute!

Don't go straight in with the whole 'shut up you annoying nutter' angle, maybe she is a bit insecure and tries to cover it up by being over chatty. Try getting to know her a bit better first and perhaps she will calm down the chat if she feels more secure. If she doesn't quiet down after that then it might be best to have a quiet word, either directly or via a manager to let her know she is distracting people.
I am a very talkative person, and I don't always realise I'm doing it or that I might be distracting people unless someone says so in a kind fashion, which I don't mind and I'll then shut up, so go easy!

That's what some people do. It's like Chinese Water torture, especially if they've got an annoying voice.

Whenever this happens to me, I pretend to be getting a migraine. Start frowning, pretend your eyes hurt, if you're really up for a bit of drama, feign a light head followed by a collapse. You'll either get sent home early, or ask to go to a darkened room (always good for a bit of a snooze). One thing's for sure, you'll feel great about saying to her that you need some peace and quiet as your head is pounding and her talking is making it worse.

Next day, when she asks you if you're okay, you can break it to her gently that SHE'S AN ANNOYING COW WITH ABSOULUTELY NO EXCUSE FOR USING UP SO MUCH AIR!

Because she's full of self importance and loves the sound of her own voice... tell the stupid cow to shut up and get on with her work... failing that, tell her manager that she's distracting you and others around her with her constant uninteresting chit chat.

Because by the laws of averages if she keeps talking long enough, eventually someone will listen.

Probably because she is insecure. Try talking to her about it and identify and deal with the source of insecurity.
