Let me enlighten you. There is woman that is married and was so bored she decided to write a book called the Housewife. She hit it big time and made lots of money.

The point is, if you have a good story that catches an editors eyes, you will be amazed. You have to keep sending in the transcripts and it is a pain,. but if you have something that is unique in writing you might get lucky because non celebrity status makes it harder to get a publisher to take a chance on you with an average story unless you have something very very good to offer. "Is there a Mr. Gump Mrs. Gump?? Just a joke ..Good Luck.

We have a little magazine in ireland, called Ireland's Own. They publish short stories every two weeks. These stories can be about anything you like, they do not have to be about Ireland and Ireland's own pays quite well. To get in touch with them, wrtite to

The Editor
Ireland's Own
Wexford

You'll need to include a synopsis. My brother-in-law tried them. (He lives in England) and now they know him (Published a few of his stories) They're quick buying them off him.

Good luck!

Get hold of a copy of the Writers' and Artists' Yearbook ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0713671734/202-5152082-8623848?v=glance&n=266239 ) - if you can't afford to buy it, your local library should have a copy. It's full of advice including addresses for agents, magazines and publishers.

You could also try to get a copy of Mslexia magazine (http://www.mslexia.co.uk/) as they have several pages listing writing competitions and open calls from publishers.

If your freelancing it will be hard as most magazines don't take solisitations (yeah i think i misspelled that bother), but if your story is really well written you could get lucky so give it a shot. Otherwise get an agent and that will help tremendously.

Contact the magazines that you think your stories will suit.
A lot of them are always looking for fresh writers.
Good luck, it's very competitive.
