Hi Red, trying to conceive can be very difficult for some cuoples, and a lot easier for other couples. To make it a little easier, you need to start keeping a log of your monthly cycle, marking the first day you start your period though the last day of your period. If you have already started doing this and you have a good grip of your cycle go out and purchase an ovulatation predictor test kit. This test will guide you through the necessary steps and soon you will become aware of when you ovulate and when you most likely can conceive. The time when to have intercourse is right before and during ovulation. That is the only time you can actually conceive a baby. Good luck and best wishes to you and your partner.

try about the 14th day after your cycle starts, this is the usual ovulation time. you can have intercourse between the 12th and 16th day about everyday, If you have a normal period cycle. then try the ovulation kits everyone else suggested during these times. this will tell you more accurately when you ovulate. If this doesn't work for a couple, a doc will try and help only after trying for about a year. So make sure you keep track of how long "god knows how long" is. The doctor will want specifics. And unless your health insurance covers it, it will be very expensive, in which case I would suggest the same that the lady said about adopting a child. Many children are in need of a loving home.

If your partner has a normal sperm count and granting that you have no organic problems like endometriosis, pelvic infection, myomas or irregular cycles, then having intercourse during the fertile period is worth a try. If you have menstruation every month, count 14 days backward from your next expected menses. This is usually the ovulation period. Since we do not know the exact date within the week it occurs count 3 days before and 3 days after that to get the ovulation week. You can have intercourse every other day during that week or buy an ovulation kit, to guide you. Other signs of ovulation are: vaginal discharge which is mucoid and looks like raw egg white. If this fails within 3 months, go see your doctor. You might have some other problem that needs help. Good luck.

In order to get pregnant, you have to have sex at a time when the woman is fertile--shortly before she ovulates. It is really simple to determine when a woman has *already* ovulated (and it's too late to get pregnant) by using the basal body temperature; predicting ovulation in advance (through cervical fluid) is also pretty simple, but the explanation is long and detailed.

Please read _Taking Charge of Your Fertility_ by Toni Weschler. It explains all of the above and more in detail. Don't bother with an online ovulation calendar; it gives you information about the "average" woman, not about *you*; by definition, this makes it wrong most of the time!! And charting your fertility signs--as outlined in the book--is more accurate than an ovulation predictor kit, as well.

Good luck!!

You say "partner," so I take it you are not married. That is your business, but a child needs a mother and father everyday, not just weekends. First be certain he will be there, and that you want him around for the rest of your life. I would suggest you contact a fertility specialist. Adoption is another avenue if you are not having success at getting pregnant. My wife and I adopted from China. She is worth it. Before bringing another child into the world, consider bringing one home that is already here. A child is child no matter whether you gave birth or not.

Try using an ovulation calculator..or even better, ovulation tests. They will help you know when the most fertile time of the month is. Not every woman ovulates at 14 days after her period....unless she is a text book :)
