You should take him to see a doctor. Facial cuts can be the most difficult to get to stop bleeding.

You don't state your son's age.
If he is an infant take him to the ER, immediately.
Is important to clean the area. Antibiotics may be prescribed either orally or via injection to guard off infections.
Hopefully in a couple of days he'll be fine.

when i was little i gashed my face open not even a centermeter away from my left eye..it was quarter inch deep and it didnt stop bleeding i needed 12 stitches and almost went blind...if i was you i would stop worrying about what everyone else thinks...my mom was down the block at her friends house..and got up and took off rushing me to the hospital..im sure you should do the same...it could be infected and he could even go blind it that gets real bad..GO NOW!

Hopefully you would have put ice on it immediately. If it's an open cut, it might need stitches.
Recommendation would be NOT to ask yahoo people - take your kid to the emergency room!

tie some ice cubes in a cloth n apply on the swollen area.take him to a dictor before it gets serious.

Well, for one thing, his immune system is working, so that is good. If it is profusely bleeding, I would take him to the ER. Other than that, I would put something like bactracin or neosporin, depending on his age.
