If you do a search on the web, there are many sites that will perform back ground checks for you. However, it is usually at a cost of approx $50 (sometimes less). The more info you have on him; the better. You should at least know his full name. It would also help, if you knew his place of birth, previous residences, and soc. security number (if possible).
If this doesn't work, you can always seek out a private detective to run a search for you. This will, once again, costs you some money. But, if it is peace of mind you are searching for, then I would say it's worth it.
It also helps, if you have a friend who is a cop. Then you can have him/ her do it for free.
