Yes, it does. They proved it on a show called Mythbusters that airs on the Discovery Channel. They proved that the quack and the echo sound almost exactly alike and that the echo comes back so quickly that when you hear the echo it appears to be part of the quack, hence you do not notice the echo because it blends into the quack.

I believe it's actually a female ducks quack that doesn't echo....
Just guessing at this next imput....but it's like a defense mechanism against predetors.....if they can't hear the duck some distance off....they can't or their young/eggs can't be eaten.....
