You're gonna have a great time! Don't walk around by yourself, especially at night. Also, don't wear expensive looking stuff. Make the most of your trip, because you'll have a great time! Try and go on safari. have fun!

Hi. I am a white South African, and that advice from the first answerer is extremely exaggerated. There is a lot of crime in this country, but it is no more dangerous than cities in America, for example.

South Africa is very beautiful, particularly the Cape and coastal regions. It is also quite large, so advice on the weather depends very much on where you go. Daytime temperatures are usually mid-to-low twenties (celcius) during winter. Night time on the coast is 10-15 degrees, and inland it drops to zero. So, bring clothes for all seasons.

I recommend visiting Cape Town if you can, because there are brilliant facilities, mountains, forests and the ocean all within 20 minutes of each other. If you are in the north, go on safari.

I hope that you enjoy your stay.

Shows how little people know about my country.Depends where you going to.If you going to cape town expect it to be about 10 deg celecius and rain a hell of a lot.If you going to Johannesburg it will be clear and sunny but cold about 3-9 deg.Botswana namibia are cold this time of year however zambia is further noth closer to equator so expect tropical conditions.Zimbabwe is going thru major political issues so be careful. Crime is rampant in most of these countries so becareful dont expect it to be safe to walk around at night as it nowhere as safe as Japan. All in all South africa is a beautiful and amazing place so much to see and do.Make a point to visit table mountain ,robben island, the wine route as well.im sure you will wanna go back once youve seen it.

I'm from Cape Town, South Africa, and please dint pay attention to those naive people who believe that Lions roam the streets.

With regards to what clothes to pack, I would suggest you bring T-shirts, long and short sleeve but no tank tops. Bring a warm jacket as well, or better yet, you can buy one here, it would be cheap enough with our Rand being so low. Today is quite cold, its 15 degrees Celsius and raining. This is basically as cold as it gets here in Cape Town in winter. So that should give you an idea.

But keep watching the weather b4 you leave. Also visit http://www.weathersa.co.za for a detailed forecast.

It is winter in South Africa now, so make sure you have some warm clothes handy. The climate is "Mediterreanean" but it can get cold, expecially in the mountains.
When in Cape Town do not forget to go to the Victoria and Albert Waterfront. Great fun and eating.
Be careful and do not walk alone in the streets, paticularly not at night. There are always robbers on the prowl for tourists.
Yet, do not get overly afraid. SA is a great country. I was there myself just two months ago.

My advice, as said above, take caution, don't wear expensive looking things that will possibly make you a target to criminals, try not walking around by yourself at night.

But South Africa is a great place overall, apart from the crime, which is exaggerated by foreigners.

Seeing as it's winter, depending on where you are going, it can get cold, but not quite as cold as you get in some countries in the Northern Hemisphere, in my experience. Johannesburg gets quite cold at times, because it's up on the Highveld.

its currently Winter in SA and it depends which province you going to visit, in most places its cold in the morning then it gets warm and sunny during the day (kinds of makes you feel like a cabbage - cos u begin to take off the layers of warm clothes u wearing), the temperature drops at night, in most guest houses, they will provide you with a heater.

Leave the heavy jackets at home, but do pack some warm clothes, long sleev vest etc.
