I am going to buy a friend who is into drawing by both hand and computer some art supplies. What are some specific (Art supply info will make zero sense to me unless I'm given a specific item) items that I can get for her that she will really like?

Money isn't that big of an issue.

She draws free hand, does watercolors, paints, and does drawing on the computer also.

A boxed set of Prismacolor colored pencils would be nice. They come in varying sizes.
If she prefers graphite, buy pencils in a range of hard and soft pencils.
You can't go wrong with a really nice pad of art paper, they show on the pads what type of medium they are designed for ( pen and ink, pencil charcoal etc.).
If you know what kind of printer she uses buy her a round of ink.
Kneaded erasers.
A drawing board.
You could put it all in a purchased portfolio and slap a nice ribbon on it.
What a thoughtful friend you are, wanna be mine? Ha

I'd go for the gift within a gift idea. First go to an art supply shop or your local Walmart (gag) or Target and find a neat "art tackle box" for her. This is a plastic multi level box that fishermen use to carry hooks and bait and so on. IT IS PERFECT for moving with art supplies. Trust me it's the best way to go. And the more messy, and painted up it becomes the better (and more artsy). You can even have the little plate (that comes with some fishing boxes) engraved with her name or initials.

Next the gift inside....a gift card(s) to places she can get supplies be it on line or locally. Places like art/craft stores have oodles of stuff or you could go mail order like utrecht.com. Just some thoughts! Make it fun...maybe stuff the rest of the empty space with brightly colored tissue paper.

You can always be brave and snoop around her art stuff and see what she has almost used up and put those items in the box with the gift cards too! :)

That is a very broad question especially if money is no limit. You need to give ua an idea of what kind of artist she is- graphic designer, muralist, painter, illustrator, etc. each kind of artist uses different tools.

I'm a graphic designer and draw on the computer and here's a short list of what I would like:

• Mac Pro Laptop starts @ $2k - apple.com
• Wacom Intuos3 tablet $425 - available at most online computer stores.
• Laser color printer - many models
• Good scanner - many models
• Nikon D50 digital camera and accessories $500+

depends on how much you are looking to spend- if a fairly large amount, you might consider an airbrush (for best value, I recommend a Richpen Apollo112b, or an Aztek 4308 set) I use both and find them completely invaluable for realistic textures, cloud rendering, skin tones- if she has never used one she'll likely become addicted, and if she has she will almost certainly enjoy it.
