well due to the millions and millions of types of races for hispanic and other types of other country's. they get labeled that. far as blacks go its one color for them all and goes w/ whites as well.

Because since we are kids we are taught to label. that and blacks/white in the states are mixtures of many different races. I think person/people is the best word to use but hey, people feel they need labels. And black people are brown, so too are white people when they tan, so calling a person brown wouldnt have much meaning it think.

People with a "brown" complexion are pretty darn prevalent (Latin America, Native Americans, Middle Easterners, southestern Europeans, Southeast Asians, Pacific Islanders, etc), so yeah...
Also, keep in mind that many Hispanics/Latinos are of pure European descent; I suppose that throws another wrench in the machinery of this particular question...

i often have wonder about this..
there are many names for the "brown" people. but how many variations of "brown" people are there?
chinese, hispanic, eskimos, isralites, and so on..
still, we will never know..
its like saying, blondes are blonds, brunettes are brown haired, redheads are red haired, but what do u call people with black hair? Blacks?
again.. we will never know..
maybe its better that way..

because very early on in our countries history that (white and black)was the only distinction so the delineation stuck. . .but now we are much more ethno-socially concious and apply appropriate terminologies.

What does it matter? Besides, some people call us much more "colorful" terms than that.
