I'm sorry to hear that folks.... While I don't make a lot of money, I live within my means and do okay. Guess my parents (who actually do make a lot of money) taught me to budget well.

Anyway, before the whacked out left jumps on and screams how Bush hates the poor and the economy is collapsing, etc. I thought I'd do a preemptive strike, incase anyone is interested.

Consistently through the Bush economic boom (that followed the Clinton/Gore recession that Bush inheritted... yes I know, it "officially" started under Bush, but that's because it takes a certain amount of time before it's called a "recession" and it WAS happening in the end of the Clinton days, and before Bush's policies ever started). Anyway, as I was saying... Consistently through the Bush economic boom, the liberal media has bashed the economy and study after study has shown how they negatively portray the economy under Republicans and positively under Democrats, no matter the realities, and this administration is the perfect example. While all sectors of the economy have boomed, the media has bashed, and the public has worried, often more than they do about things like Iraq and terrorism...

The left always tries to argue that the only people benefitting under the economy though are rich people.. But that's simply not true. Poll after poll shows a vast majority of people happy with their OWN financial situations, but when asked about their perception of the economy it's always a majority who views it negatively. Basically the majority of people who are doing well believe they are the exception rather than the rule... The only conclusion one can reach is that this is do to the dishonest liberal media, which we already know.

Need proof? This monthly poll continues to show just what I said:
http://americanresearchgroup.com/economy/

The most recent numbers (June) show that only 47% of the public view the economy positively, but a whopping 69% rate their personal situation positively!!!

Even more shockingly is how just plain misinformed, or stupid Americans are when it comes to "recession". A recession isn't a matter of opinion or anything like that. It's absolute. Either we are or are not in one. Right now, we ARE NOT and HAVE NOT been in years. But guess what? LESS THAN HALF OF THE COUNTRY REALIZES THAT WE ARE NOT IN A RECESSION!!!!!

30% of the public believes we're in a recession, 21% don't know... and only 49% know that we aren't!!!! What?! Yup, sad but true!

I could go on, but you get the picture.

(sorry if I jumped the gun on politics on this one, but I know the rabid left generally can't resist and I know I won't be on to supervise when/if this gets turned up a notch)

*********UPDATE**********
Glad to hear you're not blaming anyone happy dance.

As for Yeeooow, I've gotcha beat.. 16 year old car!

Anyway, where did I try to have it both ways? I'm making the point that the polls show that an overwhelming majority of the country is happy with their own financial situation, yet they view the economy negatively. There is no explanation for this but the liberal media us conservatives rail against all the time. Where would people form these opinions about the economy, if not based on media reports? But their perception of the economy is obviously not accurate, when you see that a majority are happy with their own situation... Not sure what you don't get. My point about the "recession" question is that "recession" is an absolute, not a matter of opinion. But the fact that only 49% of the country realizes that we are not in a recession, again proves what I'm saying. The question isn't used as an "opinion" question... It's asked to see how informed the public is about the economy, and the obvious conclusion is that they are NOT well informed at all!

As for gaining jobs "lately".... Um, unemployment is lower than the average of the previous 4 decades we have constant great job growth for a number of years now... At last check we've created somewhere approaching 5.5 million in less than 3 years! Payrolls have begun to follow, and we see that these aren't just low paying/service industry jobs... In April, management and business jobs were employing 1.2 million more than a year earlier.

Let's not even get in to the fact that the economy keeps surging ahead despite record high gas prices and instability in the world.. I think that says something. Over the past few years we've seen (as the media says, to downplay it) "unexpected" and "surprising" growth.... Month after month it's reported this way, but no one ever changes expectations. GDP, GNP, unemployment, housing market, job creation, etc.

Gotta run, sorry I can't go further

I'm actually not stressed out, but I'm saving about $42,000 this year and have been saving a similar amount for many years... Of course, i am in the top 10-15%, but I drive a 15 year old car too.

just for the record, Bush is the first president since the Great Depression who finished a term with less jobs then he started with. and there have been many recessions since 1929

Rabair12345 says a poll of opinions proves his point but then he says recessions are not opinions.... you can't have it both ways Rabair

the wage growth for most of the middle class has not improved since bush took office. the job market has been improving lately and hopefully wages will follow too.

it's hard to save when wages are not keeping up and it's stressful. The only advice I can give is just save a little each paycheck for emergencies. It's easier to sleep when you know you have an emergency fund.

good luck

Wow, rabair12345 seems a little defensive.

I'm financially stressed.

5 months pregnant, got kicked out of our house two months ago, my husband is trying to work 2 full time jobs, we're 2 grand in debt, and can barely afford groceries or gas.

Yet, I'm not blaming it on anyone.

It sucks, but we'll see better times.

(See there was a time when we were into illegal activities. We'd make and spend a grand in a week. Then we straightened out our life, quit misbehaving, and now we're having the troubles. We figure it's our karma coming back on us. We can't complain...)
