It depends a lot on the two people.

I've heard of people who dated for years then divorced three weeks after marriage.

Then I've heard of people who go married three weeks after meeting, and are still together.

Overall, I'd think, it's not so much time as it is maturity.

When you're ready to take it to that next step, not because you want to monopolise the other person, but because you want to be with them always, you want to grow with them. Then you should consider it.

And a word to the wise, it's always a good idea, barring religious or societal rules, to live with the person for a while before marriage.

It just makes sense.

Marriage is a serious step (and can lead to continuing ongoing issues, if you have children from that marriage, and the marriage breakdowns - a divorce paper doesn't break this particular bond!!). As for the time issue, if your with someone every day for a month, thats more time together than if you see someone once or twice a week for a few months - so thats very dependent on how much time you spend with each other and what you do in that time. Do you talk alot, get to know each other's past, present and wishes for the future? Do they fall in with your wishes? You also need to work out why you want to marry? Does this person offer something you never had? A family? Financial security? Protection? Or is it truly the way you are made to feel?? I married after 3 years with someone and I still got it wrong, because I married for the wrong reasons.

people need to be together long enough for the infatuation stage to wear off and see if they are still truly compatible then, that is one of the big reasons for divorce. so once that phase passes and you still think that person is the only one for you (notice i said one, forever, from now until you die ONLY them) then you start discussing all those life issues like money, jobs, household responsibilities, children, pets, inlaws, friends, drinking, time out alone and a million other things you will never think of then if that all works out you start thinking about marriage. and thats just the beginning of what you have to do to give yourself a shot at success!

i always say it a for better or worse deal, imagine the worse end, if that person was in an accident and you had to spend your life feeding them and changing their diapers would you still want to do it? because THAT'S what marriage is, anyone can be happy when it all goes right.

I'd say you should wait at least two years. I married after knowing my future husband only six months. We are now divorced and I should have been much more careful. In two years you would know the person through ups and downs and would have figured out how much of the being in love was wishful thinking on both your parts.

I think it all depends on both of you with me and my husband i dated him 2 moths and i got married i think that when you now he is the one he is. No matter what people said i have been married 2 years already i am happy i mean we have our lows and highs but we are happy because there is love lots.

They need to marry before the excitement wears off or the honeymoon will just seem like another day.

Anything. But go by this thumb rule: If you think you can still live without that person, too soon; if not, then you'll know what to do.

there is no way to say, just make sure you learn their flaws first, everyone has them but in the first few months sometimes they don't get put out there, you should love them not only for their high points but also for these flaws
