You didn't say which part of Mississippi you are going to. My mother is from there. Some things you'll have to ask locals about like great BBQ restaurants and such. (Catfish farms where you can catcha catfish and have it served up right there, if you prefer...) There are fireflies at night at the right time of year and they are a sight to behold if you've never seen them. Try a Cracker Barrel Restaurant and check out their gift shops. There is a Medgar Evers historical site in Jackson (Civil Rights Leader). It is just a different, slower paced way of life, and sometimes that is part of the experience...

Jackson, Mississippi - General William T. Sherman necktie
In the Old Capitol Museum, at Jackson, is an authentic General William T. Sherman necktie. Such an example of a Sherman necktie is quite rare. No, I'm not writing about a piece of men's neckwear. A Sherman necktie is an iron railroad rail, heated in the middle and twisted around a tree. This was one of Sherman's favorite methods of destroying the railroads in the South during the Civil War. Along with many exceptional exhibits at this fine museum is the nation's first permanent Civil Rights Movement exhibit. [Lawanda Turnage, 08/10/1999]
[RA: The term "Sherman necktie" takes some artistic liberty, since actual railroad ties are the wooden planks under the rails, as readers have reminded us... ]

The person who answered RIVER BOATING is probably correct, that's probably all there is to do there. Where do you live? Why are you considering Mississippi? The U.S. has SOO MANY other states with so much to see and do. If you do end up going there, I hear there's lots of bugs and the weather is really awful right now, but good luck!!!

Stay out of Mississippi. No one in America goes to Mississippi if they can avoid it. Pick any other state (except maybe Alabama) and go there instead.

Don't come. We don't want your stereotypes to be replaced with the realization that not everyone is country and a hillbilly (I know they're redundant, I want it for emphasis).
