For that particular sentence, the grammatically correct answer is D. As the sentence is written, you are forced to select only one option among A, B, or C - which would commit a significant error of omission by not including the other 2 word representations.

I would suggest re-phrasing the sentence as follows:

"Two," "too," and "to" are the only three representations in the English language of the word pronounced as "tu" when phonetically using the long "u" sound.

D This is an example of a statement that can be spoken, but not written, since when you speak, you're only making the generic long u sound, but when you're writing, you're actually spelling a specific word and there really aren't 3 two's (or to's or too's) - there is only 1 two, and 1 to and 1 too. The same would apply to there, their, they're or cite, site, sight or any "triplet" (or any pair of homonyms, for that matter).

that's quite tricky. you have to put somethign to complete the sentence but you can't put just one or all three. wow great question. i wish i could rate this question. hey! please let me know if there is a fourth one though.
