Helium makes the vocal cords vibrate at a diverse frequency and that is the reason, If we were able to breath helium each and every of the time all and diverse would sound like that. in fact if there have been a planet with a helium environment in stead of an oxygen environment how diverse do you imagine existence will be. Now there is a few thing to imagine about, each and every of the excellent.

Sound travels faster through helium than through air. Also, the frequency is equal to the speed of sound divided by the wavelength. Since the wavelength depends on the length of the cavity in your throat ( which shouldn't change), and the speed of sound is faster, then mathematics dictates that the frequency must be higher.

Nicole is correct. The speed of sound is nearly three times higher in helium than in air, and the resonant frequencies of the throat and nasal cavities are correspondingly higher.
Ice_Man_VI is not correct. The vocal cords are not affected by helium.

The Helium causes your vocal cords to constrict. So, just like when you tighten a guitar string, the pitch goes up.

because helium has a different density and the sound waves around your vocal cords get shorter, which sounds higher

it's deadly, though, the movement of a lighter gas through your throught makes your vocal chords emit a sound that is higher pitch than with air, thus emitting a different sound
