Yes but,

You have a choice to drink alchohol, you have a choice to smoke cigarettes, you have a choice to listen to horrible music. It can cause a psychologial affect on youth and teens but, it was their choice and the choice of their parent(s).

A poison cannot affect you if you prevent it from entering your system.

I made the same question for a friend of mine. I told him why can't be seem a black guy becoming successful honesty?
The only successful message we see about a black guy is a drug dealer dressing ridiculously surrounded by prostitutes on his brand new car. I've been told that most black artist on the music these days comes from some drug dealer financial support when they are not the real drug dealers themselves.
I think all this rap style are educating the new black people's generations to hold wrong values and keep the real values away from them on a fight for a better life.
After I use those argument with my friend he said most black people have this kind of life, they won't buy Cd's from an educated black guy that become successful because that doesn't represent their reality....than he added they would call him a "wigger"...
I don't see how a honest and with family value's black men can not be apprecaiated and reduced to a racist stereotype, but this is my opinion.

In a matter of speaking you could say it is, but the young black people that this music has the worst effect on are the ones in the worst enviroments. For a young guy or girl living in crime infested neighborhoods with absent or uncaring parents etc. the type of lifestyle that rappers sing about is the reality of thier life. I have a very good friend who grew up in the bad part of Philadelphia and went on to get a masters degree from UVA. Listening to the things he would tell me about his environment growing up it's not at all suprising that so many people accept the message that rappers sing about, for them they're really doesn't appear to be any other way to survive.

I've tried to listen, but all I hear are a bunch of insecure whiners trying to talk tough. Why do they have to repeat their names so often in their songs? Are they afraid someone might forget who they are? If they hate their lives and their neighborhoods and their women so much, why do they keep trying to make it sound cool? No they are not poison, they are more like a parasite that carries diseases. They try to promote a lifestyle that will drag any susceptible youth down so far into the gutter that they lose all hope.
What I really don't understand is why they hate the kids who listen to them so much that they try to suck any possibility of a decent life away from them. They tell these kids that it's cool to disrespect women, take drugs to escape responsibility, and kill anyone who has a different viewpoint. Do these rappers think it's funny to watch a twelve year old get high, steal a gun and shoot someone? They must, because that is what their selling in their music.

Yes, but like the others said, they have a choice to NOT do those things. It's almost like they glorify killing each other and prostitution, drugs, huslting, being a "pimp", and having these expensive cars with nice rims is the way to be. It's not! Drugs and multiple partners in sex and gangs and shooting each other will kill you for sure. They artists uphold a vision that in essence, really isn't all that glamourous. Case in point? Tupak and Notorious BIG. Dead from being rivals. All for what? A record and some $? What a waste!

Yes, it is not up building but destructive.
People are encouraged to crime and drugs by listening as assimilating their lives to the themes and styles of the music they hear. Poverty and lack of opportunities affect all races of humans and such music cater a release of anger with the feelings of neglect and dispair they feel in their lives.
Unfortunately, many people who follow such music end up in more destitution and crime. The rap artists have little respect for the well being of their fans and just make names for themselves.

I kinda think that's a give in just based on being able to ask the question to begin with........but then if you factor in families that don't give a rat's axx about each other.....or parents/guardians that don't know how to instill ethical and moral beliefs in the kids cause they themselves don't have any to pull from anyway.....so to raise them to be upstanding citizens in society regardless of race......you have a death sentence pretty much written in stone unless society and any services available can step in and reverse the damage before its too late..... assuming they themselves are even willing to help any more since it can be a long hard road......
