I find that very unjust and ignorant. A lot of people think that the economy and environment are foes when in fact mankind and the economy exist within the environment and depend on it in several important ways. And how could so many people who call themselves Christians carry this "screw the earth" mentality, finding it ok to trash God's creations, which also in turn harms humans? There are an infinite amount of examples and it shouldn't be hard for anyone to find a few. I think environmental education shouldn't be an option, it should be mandatory, because it is very crucial.

Well being a Christian, my perspective is that God gives us freewill, the power and responsibilty to take care of the planet. And the assumption that God will fix everything and we can just be lazy and greedy is sloth, which is one of the seven deadly sins.

cause some are and ruin the reputation of all the rest. it is soo frustrating.

and also exactly as you say most people put education and serious knowledge on biology and ecology as last thing, so they are virtually illiterate and prone to any disinformation from any side. AS IF BIOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH OUR LIFE!!! recently there was a poll for 7-9 graders with questions like what is ecology - the most common reply was either "Greenpeace", or that we should put used paper in the recycl. bins. AND THATS IT. then what is the mechanism of greenhouse effects - the correct answer practically never occured, while they said that it means crops better growing like in a greenhouse, etc, etc. and it is not likely to change, because instead of knowledge, you get just general blah blah that we should care, that it is bad, but no actual information. For instance there are several high schools here that have labeled themselves like envi- or eco- education and believe me that when the knowledge of biology, ecology and environmental science of students is compared ( i used to work in an youth science center where various contests of this kind are held), their students are always, indeed always, the last and most hopeless, they dont know virtually anything but they are always ready to think up any nonsensical explanation of their own for everything in the world - that is what they are very good at

Also only yesterday Greenpeace had manouevers here, with all their plain lies and stuff, like most people actually take them as information source that can be trusted and the rest think they are mad, this is sickening. here they collected 130 samples, anylysed them for lots of cash and published only the results that they liked, just to give you an example of their ways. Their "experts" are actually experts at telling you that white is black in a way that you could believe it and to draw attention when they want and not when it is needed or lacking the most.
And they are considered as serious environmentalists by some, ah...

I never met one christian who would even dare think they should just screw the earth because we all die here soon thing. Either that you must have a narrow mind set about Christians since you been seeing alot of controversy over this.

Other thing, when people hear "Environmentalist" they think of the Enviromently Terrorist who would destroy a business corporate employee's car because he is killing animals for some reason.

Also, back in the day (1970s - 80s) most people could care less what they were doing to the earth, and more about if the Soviet Union was going to launch a nuclear missile at us or some governmental conspiracy. Another thing while I'm on the subject - the hippies in the 60s-70s who were protesting against the Vietnam war were also kind of on the topic of saving the earth because of the use of nuclear power, no war, blah blah blah.

So basically Environmentalist are mix with stereotypical of hippies and actual people who want to save the world.

Conservative christians in our government do not care about god or the environment. They care only about money and power and saving the environment costs money so it is out of the question. They are so religious that they just assume god will fix it and we humans do not need to worry. However, god does not exist.

I understand you completely! I'm a vegetarian, and I think similarly to how you feel. Simple though, people put down what they don't understand. Environmentally, there is so much that could be done; although people may not care because they'll cease to exist when things get bad here on Earth, they don't consider their children's children, children and so forth...

If they undermine your character, it creates the unreasonable assumption that whatever you say is inherently flawed.

As for the Christians... somewhere in their zany adventure book, there's a line about having man dominate Earth and all its resources. At least that's what I've heard a few times in the Fox News Channel.

It's a term that is easy for the lesser educated masses to remember. Also enviromentalists are stereotyped as treehuggers which are associated with my type. Alot of people don't like (know) my type.
