before bread came pre sliced it was sold as a whole, and as such extreamly hard to cut with out turning it into smushed bread. because of this, bead aften came extreamly hard so that it was easy to dismantle. preslicing bread alowd for softer more flexible and better tasting bread.

I presume you are referring to the saying:

"It's the best thing since sliced bread"

This is a way of describing something as new and beneficial, like when sliced bread became available, it made everybodys life easier. It is not meant to be interpreted literally, but it is merely a saying.

a loaf of bread when cut vertically in to thin slices it will be sliced bread

Bread that's pre-sliced for lazy people, or people who don't want to go insane trying to cut bread without making it squish down under their STUPID DULL KNIVES!!!!
