Shell we (humans) repeat mistakes from the past?

It's inevitable. In our society today there have been two world wars, in actuality there have been quite a few. It's not that we want to repeat our mistakes it's just that they happen, in everyday life as well as political life. Someday there will be a world war, it may be over something somewhat small, fossil fuels, or over something very large, North Korea using and manufacturing nuclear bombs.

What makes you think that some form of the third world war is not already happening?

No, I do not think that there will be another devastating war unless somebody presses the wrong button. Besides, war brings out changes in society.

Concerning the mistakes, I think there will always be mistakes. Repeated or not.

Lastly, there are people who actually "rule" the world through a special kind of ideology which does not involve wars on grand scale. So if I were you I would not worry about it.

How do you define a world war? If you mean long running hostilities involving many countries in violent conflict, then the Cold War would already be the Third World War. In that case, I believe we are already involved in the Fourth World War.

If you want to know if we will have a no-rules type of World War, like World War II, but where nukes and other WMD are used on a large scale, then I put the chance at 10%.

Although conflicts will always be with us, self-preservation is also a strong motivator. No one will ever intentionally throw a nuke, knowing that the opponent will respond in kind. The only way I can see something like that getting started is through some sort of miscommunication or misinterpretation.

No, how could the world survive another world war? Look at the weapons of WWI which killed around 20 million people and then look at how weaponry advanced and killed over 50 million people in WWII. They were willing to use what ever they had at their disposal to kill. WWI was supposed to be the war to end all wars because people would see how horrific it was, but then there was WWII. Hopefully people now realize with the proliferation of Nuclear and Biological weapons that the world as we know it would never survive a WWIII.

Remember the whole reason the US and Russia had the cold war was because of M.A.D. or Mutually Assured Destruction. Any side who would use their advanced weapons now days would still be assuring their own destruction either by the environmental damage done by their weapons or by the retaliation of their enemy. Hopefully every one will see that there cannot be a WWIII because if there was one most likely no one would be left to write about it.

Seems to me we are in the middle of a "Third World War" already. This war is more of a "War of Morals". Not morals in the "What is good and bad" sense, but morals to the degree where we will eventually get to a point of shift. More and more people are finding a way to Peace....it's only a matter of time. However, I've come to realize we, as a generation, may not actually see the end results, but we will definitely be part of the catalyst.

Yes. We are, at our very core, an irrational animal destined to repeat the mistakes of the past. All of history is cyclical with different events but the same circumstances. Set your clocks everyone, World War III is coming soon. Sorry to disappoint you.

Humans repeat mistakes because they don't learn. We must remember the past to change the future.

It's possible. But it's really is up to the world leaders to make sure this won't happen. Look at the cold war and where it is taking us now. When a super power like our country takes an effort to show others that we are capable of stomping anyone, then this causes hostility with other countries that causes them to think that they may have to hike up their own defenses, especially the enemies, in case things get badly out of hand.

possible but unlikely. All the major powers of the world have nuclear weapons. Even less powerful players like Israel, Pakistan, and India have a nuke. Everyone knows that another WW will lead to the end of mankind bc once one side triggers a nuclear exchange, everybody launches nukes in self defense - MAD: Mutually Assured Destruction. That was not possible in WWI and WWII, despite the massive loss of life from conventional bombs and bullets. It is both a sign of hope and despair. Hope in that no one is crazy enough to start another WW. Despair in that we are only a trigger away from nuclear annihilation.

i think there will be. unfortuantly humans havent figured out how to resolve differences in ways other than killing each other.
its just the way we are.

i think that the human individual has the ability and capacity to learn from the past, unfortunitly we aren't taught/don't learn about the past in a way that we can learn from it.
Point and case: Hitler and the nazis. all we're taught in school is that Hitler hated jews and tried to kill them and take over the world. every single student is left wondering why all of Germany would follow the nazis.
the simple truth is that they didn't, or those that allowed hitler into power, or voted for him thought they could control him, or that he was all talk. by the time they realized their mistake, it was too late...
but we aren't taught that in school, so we don't learn it unless we study outside of school, which most kids don't do.
