This can be accomplished by electing individuals who represent your interests. First of all, we need quality health care. Let the person whom you have elected know that he will not be reelected if he/she is not going to be of value to his constituency - which, of course, is you. It does not matter that the person chosen for office is, Democratic, Republican, Independent or some other party. Their concern will have to be what you want or they will be voted out. I agree with you that this is a serious issue. Much of the money and manpower used overseas, could be and should be used here in the United States. I don't mind helping others, but charity begins at home and spreads abroad. Most of all, please keep on praying. My personal favorites are Psalm 35 to (Plead My Cause) and Psalm 4 for (Safety and Protection). They are worth every bit of our time reading them. I also enjoy reading Psalm 68:19 which states, "The Lord daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation." Selah. Remember this, "If God be for us, who can be against us?" - Romans 8:31. Peace and God Bless.

The way our society works right now, I don't think it's possible. I think the problem lies within our current practises of "community". If we all lived in small communities, knew everyone, the community would make sure the poorest fellow still got to see the good old doctor/medicine person. Bake them a loaf of bread or whatever they could give for service and that would be good enough. But our capitalist society has come away from the essence of this way of living and caring for those around us. Its all about the individual, unfortunately.

1st,, get people off the gravy train of trying to sue for everything they think is a mistake.
2nd empower non-physicians, like RN's, Registered Respiratory Therapist, Physical Therapists, etc. to employ their professional knowledge like a doctor but with limitations.
.
Anyone visiting these professionals would be doing so at their own risk, without any ability to bring a law suit, but would pay modest care fees, like $15 to $30 per visit. believe me these para-professionals can do a lot to help people. by doing this it will relieve the congestion in doctors offices, that is people who can be seen and effectively treated by non MD types need not go to a doctor taking up valuable appointment time.

3rd bring respectability toherbal medicine and alternative medicine

doctors are a powerful monopoly controlling the delivery of health care. hospitals are an even more powerful monoply controlling the garage. when these monopolies are after profits honest to god health care suffers.

but on the other side of that coin is the public: they want mistake proof health care, they want it now, and they want millions for errors. its no wonder everything must be controlled to the nth degree. we need to ease up, understand we get older, things happen to us, and the best health care in the world will not reverse or arrest the effects of age.

some doctors i know say: despite my best care my patient will get better. a good doctor is great to have when you really need them but i'd say 80% of a doctors time is taken up by simple things that could be done by a para professional type person .

follow this scenario: i get sick, feel like i have a fever, and throw up. i go to a nurse office or maybe a general clinic made up of paraprofessionals. they take my typical vital signs and i circulate among a nurse, a therapist, a pharmacist. the final decision is i have a cold, flu, or something similar. they order medication for nausea, an antibiotic, and something for fever. they draw blood, cultures, and send that to lab. your cost $15 plus prescription fees through your insurance, welfare, or whatever covers you. you get better.

lets say you get worse within 24 hours. you call the clinic. they advise you go to the emergency room. or they refer you to a physician who is available that day. then say for instance he finds you had pneumonia instead of the flu or the cold. you cannot sue. but the doctor prescribes a more effective antibiotic based on the results of the lab data.

or go anther route, the lab data comes back to the clinic, they realize pneumonia is the culprit. they treat it as effectively as a doctor would.

these are just sort of examples. to really work up a national health care system based on that vision would take a few years to complete and be in place. in some ways this is partly happening already. if you have seen a PA (physician assistant) or NP (nurse practitioner) then you know what i mean. however i am envisioning a much broader application then just the availabilty of these two medical personnel.

I think that its too late now for affordable insurance, its all about big business and money. The rich and extremely poor are covered. The rich can afford insurance and the poor get it free. In this country we are in pickle concerning health care.
