Well, I met one of my best friends when we were 10 and 11. Somewhere, we did share the thought of being the brothers we never had, and were even sort of "adopted" by each other's families.
You may not even know this guy in 10 years; yep, it's a possibility. So yeah, enjoy it while it's here. Some of the best friends around are a lot like siblings anyway, so keep that in mind; an ease and comfort that you don't just find. Even so, you relate however you want .. labels are more often for security and esteem. You two are best fricken friends .. now go and kick some a**!
By the way, almost 25 years later, me and my buddy are still very good friends. We've got different lives but somehow take a little time to stay close. I was a best man and his kids call me "uncle". Wild, but whatever. There's a unique comfort in long-time friends.

p.s.: What's with the guy talking about being gay?! Lighten up. Aren't we in an enlightened society? Anyway, ciao.

I think the age that you two are at, on the grand scheme of things you, have to look at this logically and say, there is a 90% chance you wont even know him when your 25. So, Enjoy the time you have as young adults and forget about the brother thing because it will only cause issues later. Just be best friends and leave it at that.

It is great thing if you want it to have such a relationship. Brotherhood means you both have something in common that cannot be explained. You may trust each other more than you trust your parents or not. But most importantly, you both will help out each other when things are tough. Even really brothers and sisters do not get along.

be strong and try to live on your own, dont be spoil brat. To have a lil bro because of you are lonely, will somehow leads you to be gay, beware of that as at your age youre still fragile and easy to be manipulated. Concerntrate on your study, and socialize with the boys next door.
