I feel that without Hillel, RHCP would be nothing like what they are today. Hillel helped create and breed the sounds of Anthony, Flea, and Jack (former drummer.)
That being said, without John, they also wouldn't be like they are today. John has a better mind than Hillel had. Hillel created a foundation for the band to grow, and John continues to revolutionize the band's sound. So, they are equally good.

Well, I love the Chili Peppers, especially their newish stuff (By The Way, Californication (albums)...) and that's when John Frusciante started adding his own stuff, so yeah i reckon he is the best.
However, even though people say that Dave Navarro kinda put the Chili's down, i have to disagree, One Hot Minute was an amazing album, it just takes getting used too....
Chili Peppers Rock!!! Oh and John Frusciante!!!!! :)

Hillel Slovak and John Frusciante are equally good.
The bloke on the debut album wasn't that great, and Dave Navarro's contribution's didn't gel all that well with the band.
