Water. When you combine two liquids that don't dissolve each other, the less dense liquid always floats to the top while the denser liquid always sinks to the bottom. Oil of just about any type always floats on water. That is why oil tanker accidents result in oil slicks.

water is denser than oil b'coz oil floats on water if it would have been denser than water than water would have floated on oil.
this is due to the reason that water molecules form hydrogen bonds forming a dense cagelike structure whereas there is no hydrogen bonding in oils.
hydrogen bonding is the phenomenon of a bond formation b/w a hydrogen atom and a highly electronegative atom as nitrogen and oxygen.

Any oil type will have more density than water. Density of water is taken as 1 always. Oil has unsaturated fatty acids. these fatty acid molecules have more interactions with each other and hence viscocity of oil increases. thus density (no. of molecules per unit area) also increases. saturated fatty acids (butter) have further more density.
