Well answering that question might be difficult. What do you mean by the best, and are you referring to presidents in the USA? And, I am assuming you mean president of a country. So with that in mind, in my opinion, President Lincoln ranks as the "best" this country, the USA, has ever had. He freed those that were slaves, he believed in this so strongly that he wrote the "emancipation proclamation, and I would say he was an extremely intelligent man.

I would have to go with Roosevelt. He pulled or should I say pushed this country through two of it's lowest points in history, being the depression and world war 2. Two very hard times for this country with which he put some brilliant thoughts to work, and kept this country alive. All while maintaining a positive, no quit attitude. Incredible man in my book.

That's a tough decision. For the past century, definitely FDR, for the New Deal and tackling WW2. My favorite of the later 20th century is Reagan for leaving us a legacy of spiritual hope.

FDR, because he was far seeing enough to initiate programs to get us out of the depression and he sustained the American people during World War II in a way that no one else could have done.
