I would have to say the first thing to clean up first would have to be the area that would be seen by the guest; the living room. Vaccum the carpet (sweep and mop the floor) Clear up the coffee table and/or end tables. Make the area look nice. If I would have extra time, clean the bathroom... you never know when they might have to freshen up or just need to use the facilities :) I might have them over for dinner, then I would clean the kitchen before the bathroom... but still try to make the bathroom a bit more spiffy.

Yes, I would straighten up first. Actually I would never let it get dirty, you know what I mean? Like whenever you see something on the floor just pick it up and put it where it goes, Trust me it will be a lot easier for you whenever you actually start to clean. Plus you don't want people leaving your house and telling other people how nasty and junky your house was, because trust me that is embarrassing!

Of course!!! I wouldn't want anyone to think ill of me. A messy house reflects negatively on the person. When I see a messy house I think that person doesn't respect their home, or me, because they allowed me to see it and not care what I thought about it. It makes a person uncomfortable to be in a messy house, having to trip on, step over, set aside a mess.

It really depends on who it is coming over, and how much time I've got. If it's a close friend or family member, no, I wouldn't straighten it up. They've probably seen it that way before. But if it was just an accquaintence or someone really important, I would. As fast as I possibly can.

yes...I always straighten up if I'm expecting company, mainly because I live in a small apartment and it's crappy, so I try and make it look as nice as possible. Plus, I don't want them to complain that it's messy or something.

WE even did laundry!!! Clean sheets for everyone!!!

I'd do both!!! Not at the same time...the house will have to be cleaned up first. I can straighten myself up while they are here...other people can always entertain!

I think if you have self-respect, you would clean up first before allowing your company to see your home.

If you don't, then at least clean the restroom. You don't want your guests to have to use your restroom only to find you have no toilet paper, your sink if full of toothpaste/hair/or something equally gross, and your trashcan is filled.

Then close all the doors in your home so they can't see inside, and at least vacuum.
