Hey Fred, if you are in Singapore, head to Beach Road. Stay at Royal Plaza Hotel there and just across the road, you will find quite a few eateries especially steamboats! Buffets abound. Shopping is not far where Raffles City is. Or a short ride to Orchard Road for more shopping.
You can ask around for other eating places, no worries, quite a few are along that road. Thai flavour, go to Golden Mile for authenthetic Thai food. Across Golden Mile is Crawford Hawker Centre. Not far is another hawker centre. Plus at each corner of the public housing block, you will come across a coffee shop with food stalls. Want swanky places, go further down the road to Suntec City and Marina Square and Citylink Shopping Centre.
Whew, think you should be sated for awhile.
