On a rating of 10 how would you rate these three books. Also, in some reviews, Philip Pullman has bee equated with Tolkien. Do you think that's justified? And.. when will the fifth Artemis book be released? And-- Do you really thik LoTR is a children's book? And are you a die hard Artemis Fowl and Tolkien fan, but didn't like Pullman?

I think all of these books are great!
I would say that Lotr is a more adult book(8.5/10), whereas Pullman's(9/10) are more for teenagers, around 14 and up.
I also love the Artemis Fowl(8/10) series, and I think that it more for younger people under 16. Even though I'm on the verge of that limit, I am still looking forward to the fifth fowl book.
Also for anyone interested in these types of books you should definitely check out ERAGON, book 1 of the inheritance trilogy by Christopher Paolini !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have read all of these books, and loved them all, but LoTR is definitely an adult level book. And it is a book, not a trilogy because Tolkein wrote it as a single book, his original publisher broke it up into three volumes because it was so long that he didn't think anyone would buy it.

Pullman's His Dark Materials books are for a younger audience, around YA level. I think that it is probably unfair to compare Pullman to Tolkein at this point, his books haven't met the test of time yet, but they are excellent books.

The Artemis Fowl books were written for about 4th to 6th grade level, but they are so much fun to read that I know several adults who love them. I mean, who wouldn't love LEPRecon?

LotR may be the sequel to a children's book, but the darkness of the themes keep it far from being a children's book. I was given both the Hobbit and the trilogy when I was about 11. I easily read the Hobbit. I tried reading the trilogy next and never got half way through the first book. I did not pick it up to read again until I was about 15 and loved it.

I have not read the others.

LotR is definitely not a children's book. even many adults don't have the attention span for it, i think.

by the way, i'd rate it a 9/10.

not familiar with the other two.
