...the thousands of people at their computers right now answering questions on Yahoo? Do you think we'd all be talking if we were in a big room together or just awkward silences? Why's it like that?

i think we'd talk eventually after the awkward silence. i think we may end up making a lot of friends and some enemies. not everyone gets along on YA.

Interesting question.

If we were all in a large room, we would "auto sort" all the visual and audio info flying through the air. Based on each individuals pre-programed interest, prejudices, expectations, etc they would tend to group together based on this visual/audio information.

This format also allows more time for thought and therefore, hopefully, a fuller and more complete answer to a question that deserves it. As opposed to the "pressure" that is sometimes felt to have to 'shoot from the lip' during an active debate or discussion. This allows a more one on one feel than the massive community that it is.

I like this idea. I wish there were less "chat room" questions and more thought provoking ones.

In here you can also bounce through several different catagories or zoom in on a certain area of interest or expertice.

Shine on

Basing on the kind of questions and answers that have been written here, I believe that if and when we all got together, there will sure be some awkward moments. But, I do not think it will last too long. We have such an eclectic group of personalities here that I do believe it will be an experience of a lifetime...so many different people, with different backgrounds, of different ages, with so many different perspectives. :)

I would love to meet everyone! I don't see an awkward silence, I see a room with a lot of us being loud and trying to make our own individual opinions count.

What do you say we have a great big YAHOO ANSWERS party? Where shall we meet???

Some people would likely be a lot more polite, if they were face to face with each other. Then again, there could be some fist fights, too!

Most of us would start talking, after a bit, but the very shy would be the wallflowers of the group.

I think we would all be talking! I have often answered a question that I felt would make an excellent conversation or debate. Too bad Yahoo doesn't have a way to make that possible right now. I think it would be alot of fun!

I don't know if there would be any awkward silences or not but it sure would be interesting.
I think people would gravitate to conversations they were interested in.Other people would be wallflowers and some people would naturally not like other people.
Personally, I'd like to met some of the people on here.

I say awkward silence. I hate talking to people in real life. as far as why, I'm not sure.

becaus we arnt preasured into formalities our name is there we don't have to wait for an opening to ask a question, etc. it's just about getting started in a group. but i do think some of these questions or comments would not carry well in person, especially a large group
