I presume you mean the African bush elephant and not the African forest elephant. (It should not really matter in the context of this question though)

Yes, they can breed and have offsprings. But there has been no healthy offspring ever and since they belong to two different genuses, scientifically they cannot produce a normal offspring.

Yes

"An Asian elephant cow, "Sheba" in Chester Zoo, England, November 7, 1978 gave birth to a calf with an African elephant bull "Jumbolino" as the father. The male calf named Motty died two weeks after its birth. It was an early birth and Motty had stomach problems."

African and Asian elephants are of two different genuses, and I always thought animals would have to be in the same genus to be closely related enough to produce hybrids.

Did you know that there is a third species? ... that there are 2 distinct types of "African elephant"?

If they can co- exist so close together, but not interbreed / hybridise, I suppose there is a good chance that other species of elephant would not interbreed, either!

There are several cases of them breeding in captivity but none of the offspring have survived long-term.

No. Since they are two different species interbreeding is difficult.
One such case has been reported in 1978 at Chester Zoo.
But the calf died 12 days later.

I think so. Different breeds of cat and dogs can breed so why can't elephants.
