Marshall Mathers, recording as Eminem, started rapping as a teenager in Detroit, Michigan. His self-produced recording The Slim Shady EP caught the attention of famed rapper and producer Dr. Dre, who helped Eminem produce The Slim Shady LP. The 1999 record made Eminem a radio and video superstar, with a reputation as a white rapper who wasn't afraid to be vulgar. His fame was only heightened by troubles with the law and legal battles with this mother and his wife. (He married his high school sweetheart, the former Kimberly Scott, in 1999. They were divorced in 2001, then remarried briefly in 2006.) He released the best-selling The Eminem Show in 2002 and also starred in the Curtis Hanson movie 8 Mile, a drama loosely based on Eminem's early life in Detroit. In 2003 Eminem became the first rapper to win an Oscar (for the song "Lose Yourself," from 8 Mile). His 2005 greatest hits album was titled Curtain Call.
Extra credit: Eminem's 2006 remarriage to Kimberly Mathers lasted three months; the couple married in January and announced in April that they would divorce again... Eminem, AKA Slim Shady, is a white rapper from 8 Mile, a trailer park community in Detriot, Michigan. His major claim to fame is his lyrical content. On top of rapping about his life in poverty, his neglegent mother, the drug abuse of both him and his ex-wife and his love for his daughter (all of which are unconventional subjects in mainstream hip-hop), his inclusion of heavy homophobia, violence and mycogeny in his earlier albums were his major claim to fame (he later combated this by performing at the Grammy's with Elton John). He is a member of the rap group D12 and one of the head honchos at Shady/Aftermath Records, which is the group that owns G-Unit. He brought 50 Cent into fame. His latest album, Encore, could be his last album, because he has stated that he wants to take a break from rap to spend more time with his daughter.

his real name is marshall mathers. if u've ever seen it, he's in the movie 8 mile. if u haven't i suggest u watch it. he's a rapper, part of d-12 and also solo. he sings songs such as: "cleanin' out my closet" and "shake that a**"
