I'd suggest trying them both to see which you like better. It's possible that you might like using tampons for when you are physically active (swimming, for example) and pads for other times.

Plenty of girls who are virgins can use tampons, especially if you get the smaller sized "juniors" or "light days".

However, of bigger concern is the possibility of leakage or infection. Sometimes tampons don't expand quite right and you could end up with a "gap" in leakage protection. You may find that tampons cause bladder infections, since they could push bacteria into your urinary tract.

Some females never have any problems with tampons and some do. You just have to find out for yourself.

I suggest pads for young girls. Tampons are very uncomfortable especially when you're not sexually active. It took me a long time before I got used to tampons and I was 23. Stick to pads until you feel comfortable using tampons.

A young girl who has started her period can easily use junior-size tampons at first. Often if a girl is active in sports, pads don't offer the same security as a tampon does. I do suggest that the first time you use one, to have a mirror there, so you can see what your genital area looks like. This will make inserting the tampon easier.

Definitely pads are better than tampons for young girls.

Honestly it comes down to the users preference. I've noticed others stating things about being a virgin and such; any doctor will tell you that is nonsense. It makes no difference if you're a virgin or not due to most active girls already having their hymen ruptured due to sports, dance and similar activities. Therefore tampons if preferred are fine just remember to follow the instructions and be calm as it can be difficult at first if the tampon is inserted at a bad angle and/or if the individual is vaginally dry.

I will say if you really active tampons seem like the better option once you're used to them because you don't have that bulky "is it going to shift and leak" feeling, plus you can even go swimming.

Good luck in your decision and remember, ultimately it is your choice. :)

It depends on how active she is. If she plays a lot of sports and wearing a pad is a problem, then maybe a tampon is necessary to help prevent leakage while she is moving around. However, tampons aren't extremely safe for youngsters because they can cause shock and are sometimes difficult to use.

start off with pads, but after 6 mo. to a year of having a period start using tampons. tampons are way easier to deal with and make periods less annoying because they're not as messy. after a year of using tampons, you shouldn't be afraid to wear them to sleep. don't listen to what people say about TSS, it only happens when people wear a huge maxisuper tampon for like 24 hours, and even then it's rare.

For young girls - pads are usually better and more comfortable. Especially if she is a virgin it might be extemely difficult and painful to use a tampon unless it is forced (ughh..). I couldn't use them until i had sex because i would feel like passing out if i even tried at all before that.

I am still a virgin and i use a tampon. I started of with pads but I find they tend to make me feel self concious. I think pads are easier because they can also be less hassel but i find wearing a tampon can make my cramps less.
It is difficult to insert them and can be painful, but if you want to try, you should. Both ways work.

Pads are the safer choice because they don't have the Toxic Shock Syndrome concern. They are also less traumatic for young girls, especially those who have never been sexually active. However, I starting using tampons before having sex, because they tend to keep you and your clothes cleaner. They also take up less room in the purse. :)
