Hey cowboy...

You sound like me! I hate having to dress up for work...can I have the job you're leaving?

First thing you need to do is find out what your new employer's dress code is. You'd be surprised at how picky some places are. I know of one place that isn't even open to the public, and they require a certain height heel, and other very picky things.

You can't go wrong with slacks and a sweater set, or jacket over a nice tee shirt, or blouse. If you don't want to wear pantyhose, don't wear dresses. Get a few pairs of black, navy, tan...maybe some chocolate, dark green or burgandy slacks. That way you can match just about any top with any pant. You can wear a button up blouse, unbuttoned over a solid color silky tee shirt. They have some decent plus size stuff at Walmart, or you could try Lane Bryant. Slide shoes probably won't work. You may need to check out a comfortable lace up, in a couple of colors that will go with everything. Everybody makes a semi dressy lace up nowadays, from Dr Scholl's to Aigner. If you're wearing pants, your shoes won't be that noticable. Good luck on your new job!

You should ask about their dress code. Most offices have one. Panty hose are nice, but women are kind of gettin out of them. Buy a great pair of slacks in different colors like black, grey, kahki. Make sure they fit well and they will be comfy. Check out Lane Bryant since you are heavier. I think they are owned by the same company as Express and the Limited and those stores have great work wear. Slide shoes should be ok as long as your toes don't show. It's nice to wear a little heel and have leather. Try naturalizers or aerosoles because they are more comfy.

On top go for a cute blazer...it will make you appear slimmer and you don't have to wear it all the time. Wear button down blouses with sleeves or any other type blouse. Try Old Navy.

Just buy a couple of basics like the pants and a couple shirts and see what other women are wearing once you start. Just don't wear anything too revealing.

Oh, don't worry hon. You'll be fine. Just dress nicely. No, pantyhose are not required (or at least shouldn't be) And I don't see why some styles of slides wouldn't be appropriate. If you have to go in for another interview or orientation, check out what the other people are wearing. What was your interviewer wearing? Just kinda feel the place out before you invest in a new wardrobe! :) Congrats on the new job and good luck!

Wear a nice scarf w/your outfits. Scarves easily dress up most every outfit. Always dress comfortably...you don't want to be tugging on your outfit during a meeting!
If you don't have a lot of money but want to get a selection of mix and match....try thrift stores. You can beef up your wardrobe fairly cheaply.
